MeetUp.com is a way to organize meetings.
"Houston 4 Ron Paul" had their first meeting on May 9th.

Nearly 15 people showed up and we all exchanged our ideas and thoughts. One of those ideas was creating a forum and here it is!

Click here to check out the Houston group: http://ronpaul.meetup.com/24/?gj=sj5

Sign up if you are interested in attending the meets.

The Houston "Underground" group is going to get together on May 15th and we are going to watch the South Carolina GOP debate together. Here are the details: http://ronpaul.meetup.com/24/calendar/5764664/

If you are not from the Houston area, but are interested in MeetUp.com groups for Ron Paul in your city. Try entering your zip code here: http://ronpaul.meetup.com/?gj=ej9

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the next meet-up either but I assure you, we will be there as soon as we can. This month is particulary busy for us. We are leaving tomorrow to drive to Washington DC (husband's business trip)! I hope we don't get arrested...someone told me they WILL arrest you if you eat on the subway so I guess we better not do that...lol

My husband and I started the Norfolk, VA meetup group. We started it a few days ago and so far we only have a few members. I think it will grow quickly though.

The admins here should set up a section for meetings in other parts of the country. Meetup.com charges $12.00 a month. I was going to do it in my home town in Northern California, but I didn't want to pay $12.00 a month.

Check out the local areas forum: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4

When you get 4 members signed up on this forum and they request a new section then that forum is created.

Howdy, I've just created a Meetup group for Ron Paul in Calabasas, CA. In case you don't know, Calabasas is just north of Malibu, west of Woodland Hills and east of Thousand Oaks. We are famous mostly for an outdoor smoking ban and gated communities with houses that cost well into seven figures.

Hi all,

I signed up, but the closest MeetUp in my area is not all that close! I'm going to try to start one myself and bit closer.

Ron Paul Meetup and Yahoo Groups 051707

The time for a transition from the virtual world to the physical world is now. The PCC created the top level meetup domain and we need you to join one or start your own.

http://ronpaul.meetup.com/about/

As of today, there are 63 groups formed in the United States. Many other states have enough potential members, but no one has stepped up to form a group yet. How about YOU???

2,033 supporters have joined and 991 are interested!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!

I have gone through the existing and pending Ron Paul meetup groups and grouped them by state, below, as the meetup site does this very poorly. It should allow you to judge the easily accessible support in your state and near your city.

If you are near an established group, please join it. If your city has a (# interested) following the city name, you don't, but might be close enough to others to join an established group or find enough people to form a group. If you start a group, it does cost money. A single month is $19, 3 months is $45 ($15 a month) and 6 months is $12 a month ($72). You can set this up and pass the hat at your first meeting.

Once you have a meetup group, publicize it. A mailing is done for you to everyone within so many miles that has signed up as interested by meetup, but also send out a mailing. You will get a mailing list that goes out to everyone that has joined your group. Ask group members to add a meetup banner to their myspace profiles and web pages.

This notice is being sent to people on yahoo, and on the main Ron Paul groups on myspace and facebook. To find other Ron Paul supporters on myspace, do a search for Ron Paul and your state name. About half of these will have gone to school in your state, or mention the names Ron and Paul, not together or someone posted a Ron Paul blerb in their comments section. I found about 50 possibles in 4-5 hours of searching. Send these people friend requests. Then after a number have become friends, send bulletins. Facebook is harder, as you need to search by school name and Ron Paul. Many people leave the default “I'll think of something to put here” as their profile, so you won't get as far.

Once you get boots on the ground, you can start recruiting whoever likes the message, but for now we are trying to reach out to those on the net that already know who he is and like him.

You may be able to join other meetup groups local to you that are libertarian, conservative, republican, etc. and post on their lists an intro to Ron Paul and a pointer to your group. These people already use meetup, so getting people to come over should be easier.

Once you have a group, you will want to start doing things. As a stopgap measure, fliers, door hangers, bumper stickers, etc. that can be printed out on home printers can be found at a number of sites. There are also ones that are made for commercial printers with the correct proof marks. Check out these sites:

In some cases, you can target specific populations, for example gun shops and shows are fertile grounds for promoting Dr. Paul.

Lastly, you want to try and get some of your members to become Republican delegates, some tips and resources on how to do that can be found here:

http://www3.webng.com/ronpaul/becomedelegate.html

Most importantly, take that first step and join or form a Ron Paul meetup group and lets take this campaign to the next level!

Thanks,

Nathan

I'd drive up if it weren't on a Monday. Very little chance of making it in weekday afternoon traffic through Washington et al.

We're still trying to figure out the best day for everyone involved. I just started setting it up today.

If there are enough people, it might make sense to have two meetings, as schedules vary and what not. Whatever it takes. :)

Anyway, I saw there were a few people in Morgantown who were interested, so we might be able to figure something out.

Hmmm... In St. Louis, the meetup group has been started by a "9/11 Was An Inside Job," type. His profile pic is of he and a woman, presumably his wife, standing downtown next to the Arch, holding signs that say as much. I'm not trying to start a debate on the validity of such a claim - though I think it's akin to claiming the moonlanding was faked, ie: preposterous for a million reasons - but I do believe that particularly in today's political climate, having the only Ron Paul Meetup group in town headed up by a 9/11 "Truther," is severly detrimental to the campaign of Ron Paul. There is already the tinge of "tinfoil hat"-esque commentary directed, quite unfairly, at supporters of Ron Paul, hell, the MSM hardly believes we even exist in reality and aren't simply 83 weirdos with computer hacking skills. I hadn't exactly planned on starting my own Ron Paul meet up group, and I have doubts about the positive side of starting a competing Ron Paul meetup group, but I refuse to join up with a group that has been started by a man who truly believes that 9/11 was an inside job. I mean, talk about a handicap! Am I being extreme here? Should I just suck it up for the good of the campaign? (even though I believe it can be objectively proven that a group headed up by a 9/11 Truther is actually hurting the case?)

An excellent question, Andrew. I guess what this comes down to is your own personal feelings. People who differ in opinion can work together to achieve a common goal. Many people on this site disagree with Ron Paul's view on Iraq - personally, I do favor ending the war as painlessly as possible at this time, but I'm not without my doubts about it being entirely the ethical thing to do. Many others have disagreements regarding border controls and immigration. Others still believe that 9/11 was an inside job. I don't care for this idea much myself, but if these people are going to help me do something I think is right, I'm not going to turn them away. This guy went out and spent his money to start the group, so I'm guessing it'll have an air of his own values as well. If one of those values is something you can't live with, then you have three choices. One is to wait and see if someone else feels how you do, and puts up the cash to start a competing group. Another is to be that person yourself - put up the capital, compete, and let their be two groups, one of people who believe that way and one for people who don't. Both of these ideas start down a slope that could lead to splintering factions among supporters in your area. If someone decides they disagree with one group or the other about how and when to end the war in Iraq, that could lead to a third group. Border security? A fourth. There are infinite issues that could splinter your region's supporters. The last option is of course to join up with the existing group. Some of the relevant questions to consider here are does it have an active base? If so, does this active base actively push the inside-job viewpoint on others? Are these people that you'd enjoy being around at all?

If you haven't actually talked to this guy at all, that may be a good place to start. You know how you feel about him and his views, why not see how he feels about you and yours? Will he be preaching that one aspect of his ideology all of the time, or can he help to represent Dr. Paul's views accurately to the great community?
I can't answer your dilemma for you, but hopefully I've been helpful in putting it into perspective. Best of luck, Matt.

The admins here should set up a section for meetings in other parts of the country. Meetup.com charges $12.00 a month. I was going to do it in my home town in Northern California, but I didn't want to pay $12.00 a month.

We started a meetup in the Boston area (http://ronpaul.meetup.com/68) just in time to organize for the debate in Manchester about an hour's drive away. There are now 27 members.

The most useful feature about Meetup is the group email. An email sent by one member to the group email address is received by all members and a reply to that email goes back to all members. It is an excellent way to networkand share information.

((In Boston it cost $19/month. Since there was a body of interested Ron Paul supporters already listed in 'Meetup' it was useful to use. It is worth while to spend $12. to get the ball rolling. The same group email system is also available for free on 'Google' groups and so at a later time you can swtich members over to Google if you want. ))
