LOL. Well, no. Historically, the campaigns don't start until Labor Day.

He will need to file in Iowa and New Hampshire (which has pledged to keep moving theirs up to be first even if they're voting on Halloween). The balloting schedule and process must be finalized by September 1 this year according to RNC by-laws.

Wesley Clark was the last Democratic entrant to enter on the last cycle, on Sept 13th. That was perceived at the time to be perhaps a little too late to organize for Super Tuesday. And we have a pushed up primary schedule this year with even more states on Super Tues.

There might be a small hole in the news after Ames poll is over, to make an announcement. But by mid August it's too late.
