Just curious how this job should be handled and who should be the one.

It is a huge part of the president's council and should be a priority.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Is that the woman from "Why We Fight"?

Although no names come immediately to mind, I'd be skeptical of anyone who attained a rank above Colonel.

By that standard you are qualified as SecDef, commanding a tank battalion in France and all....

Yes.

She got out (retired?) as a Lieutenant Colonel... Not to mention she's USAF. ;)

Would it be a big deal to leave the best, most competent people in charge of the military? So far, I think this would be the best choice as long as they know who the president is and that they will totally obey him.

I think we totally screwed up Iraq by disbanding their army.

I am a recovering Neo-Con BTW.

Sec. Defence is normally a civilian while the Joint chiefs of staff is a military officer. It was designed that way to make a strong showing that the civilians are in charge. Discourages military coups.

im not a big arnold fan but remember .....a lot of the "nazi's" were brainwashed young men believing they were fighting for a good cause....much like some of our own soldiers
I dont know enough info to take up for the guy but i also dont jump to conclude that he was a horrible person because he was german military either

To be sure: I was being facetious with my Conan mention.

I was very not serious.

And to think...Cali' is our "coolest" state....

Nobody in the military. It's supposed to be a civilian post. We watched that Why We Fight video in my social justice class... It was real interesting.

I have to believe that a competent high ranking officer (not a name) that agrees with RP's principles could be found.

As long as it's someone who will make sure someone is watching the radars at all times. You know, someone who isn't adverse to actually doing his/her job and protecting the lives of others.
So long as it's not Rumsfeld again....
Maybe Flipper?
