Seriously, such an endorsement would be huge.

because he's a VP candidate for almost anyone. i think he might endorse Huckabee because both are southern governors and governors tend to stick together. but i think sanford should "vote his conscience" and endorse ron paul because that is who he is most similar to. Its a huge risk for sanford, but his endorsement would mean that he would likely be a credible heir apparent to carry on ron paul's message in case the republicans lose in 08 or a great vp for ron paul. but if he does choose to endorse ron paul, he shouldn't do it until about a week before the primary. the reason is that as soon as ron paul gets a big endorsement like that he will be a huge target by everyone. remember that's what the al gore endorsement did to howard dean...

Sanford self-limited himself to three terms (like the original Contract with America included) in the House, and then ran for (and was reelected) Governor of South Carolina. He has few -- if any -- political ambitions, so I feel fairly confident that he will endorse RP when the timing is right.

He secretly traveled to Cuba (via Mexico) to talk to the people there without drawing any attention so that he could find out what they thought of the embargo (he gave a talk on this at CATO); he talked to all sorts of people while there, and they all told him that the embargo did nothing but hurt the Cuban people and give Fidel an excuse for why the socialist paradise ain't no paradise. As a result of his own fact-finding trip, he changed his position on the whole embargo. Note: he later learned that he could have traveled to Cuba legally as a member of Congress.

The guy has guts and principles (he has frequently had his vetoes overridden by pork-barrel "Republicans" working with their fellow pork-barrel Democrats in the legislature).

A bump is merely a post that makes the thread remain near the top of the list of threads, since threads are sorted by the time/date of their most recent post. So when people want a thread to remain visible, but don't have anything in particular to add, they bump it. This happens primarily to informational or request threads, since it can be important to see them, even if there is no useful conversational element to them.

I honestly believe it will be Paul or nobody (for reasons I can't disclose), but he's said he isn't going to endorse anyone.

It might be worthwhile to stand outside his mansion with signs that say "endorse Dr. Paul" after the NH primary... just a thought.

I contacted him. One thing to keep in mind is that many South Carolinians don't like Mark Sanford. Many oppose his stances on education, the Savannah River Plant, and nuclear energy.

I have mixed feelings about him. I think he has a better reputation nationally than in South Carolina.

He's a good guy and principled. I'm just trying to make people aware that it's not all automatically good to have his endorsement.

The Sanford endorsement might only come if we do well in NH.

We still have to prove ourselves.

You are right. Because once he endorses RP he is taking a big risk with his political future. He'll only endorse Ron Paul if he thinks he'll win.
