This is an important category for canidates, and I think its one that RP can win. It shows the broad support of a canidate.

Giuliani has only 60,000 donors. 3rd in the GOP.

Anyone know how many donors RP has?

No release on that yet. We might have to wait until the official FEC numbers for that, though you're right, its an extremely important metric for this campaign.

My guess is around 25000-30000. Based upon several hundred people maxing out and the average donation around 95.

If the quarter fundraising was 2.5 million, and the average contribution of Ron Paul supporters was 50, that would be 50,000 donors.

This is an awesome way to look at it!

The FEC and NYTimes page, when updated on July 15th, will tell the number of donors and separate them into giving brackets, and how many people gave in each bracket (http://www.nytimes.com/ref/us/politics/2008_EG_FINANCES.html)

The total number of donors can be calculated here, then showing who actually had more people give to their campaign.

This could be big!!

No way is it that low. Barack Obama has one of the lowest average contribution numbers, and he was at $246 with a ton of donors.

If you're right, this means that the Paul Campaign can hit up their donors for campaign funds again and again.

If that is true, that is more than pitiful. There are more people in the Meetup groups than that. We are not going to get him elected unless we step it up! We need media coverage and it doesn't look like it's going to come free. We're going to have to buy it and for that, we're going to need a LOT of money.

Time for everybody to put their money where their mouths are. Including me. I have a little ways to go before I max out and I need to go ahead and do it now.

Huh? There's only 18k in the meetups, last I looked.

18k < 50k. I imagine our average contribution is quite a bit less than $50, though. I'd bet it's around $30. So closer to 80k contributors. That's significant.

Averages don't mean crap, joe.

Bill Gates and I have an average net worth of $26B. Doesn't make me rich, now, does it?

Averaging the donations will only decrease the number of donors. What we need it either the median or modal amount donated to really tell.

I'm willing to guess that the modal amount is somewhere around $50 or less, which means a LOT more instances of donations. I'd say we are probably closes to 40-45K donors (correcting for multiple small donations).

I didn't keep track of my Q2 donations after a point, but I suspect it was around $500. I'm going to go back and review my bank statements, then donate the rest of my allowed 2300 in Q3.
