I'm working to put together a CD of vidoes, text, and such, and thought it would be nice to have some good quotes from Ron Paul. I already have a couple, and will probably extract some more out of all the videos and text that I have from him, but I'd like to ask everyone else to feel free to post some quotes of his here as well. This could be a very useful resource for putting together all sorts of material. The quotes don't necessarily need to be applicable to all situations. Whatever quote you think serves a good purpose in even some specific case, post it.

"I want to be president of the country, not president of the republican party." - May 15th, 2007, post-debate interview on Fox News (YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ4IW0Y_7WY))

"We should have a strong president. Strong enough to resist the tempation of taking power that a president shouldn't have." - February 25th, 2007, New Hampshire Liberty Forum (YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcQQ05XtAQ4))

Oo, good links. Shoulda thought of doing a simple internet search myself. Hate being lazy and wanting everyone else to do my work for me. :o

Oh, and another link is http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Ron_Paul.

Here's the ones I've decided to use for now, though I might trim it some eventually:

“I want to be president of the country, not president of the republican party.” - May 15th, 2007, post-debate interview

“How can I run for an office like this and say, 'I want to be a weak president?' We should have a strong president. Strong enough to resist the tempation of taking power that a president shouldn't have.” - February 25th, 2007, New Hampshire Liberty Forum

“Setting a good example is a far better way to spread ideals than through force of arms.”

“Because federal hate crime laws criminalize thoughts, they are incompatible with a free society.” - May 7th, 2007, Unconstitutional Legislation Threatens Freedoms

“I do not challenge the dedication and sincerity of those who disagree with the freedom philosophy and confidently promote government solutions for all our ills. I am just absolutely convinced that the best formula for giving us peace and preserving the American way of life is freedom, limited government, and minding our own business overseas.”

“War is never economically beneficial except for those in position to profit from war expenditures.”

“When the federal government spends more each year than it collects in tax revenues, it has three choices: It can raise taxes, print money, or borrow money. While these actions may benefit politicians, all three options are bad for average Americans. Deficits mean future tax increases, pure and simple. Deficit spending should be viewed as a tax on future generations, and politicians who create deficits should be exposed as tax hikers.”

“When one person can initiate war, by its definition, a republic no longer exists.”

“Capitalism should not be condemned, since we haven't had capitalism. A system of capitalism presumes sound money, not fiat money manipulated by a central bank. Capitalism cherishes voluntary contracts and interest rates that are determined by savings, not credit creation by a central bank. It's not capitalism when the system is plagued with incomprehensible rules regarding mergers, acquisitions, and stock sales, along with wage controls, price controls, protectionism, corporate subsidies, international management of trade, complex and punishing corporate taxes, privileged government contracts to the military - industrial complex, and a foreign policy controlled by corporate interests and overseas investments. Add to this centralized federal mismanagement of farming, education, medicine, insurance, banking and welfare. This is not capitalism!”

“Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.” - April 23, 2007, Security and Liberty

“Legal issues aside, the American people and government should never abide the use of torture by our military or intelligence agencies. A decent society never accepts or justifies torture. It dehumanizes both torturer and victim, yet seldom produces reliable intelligence. Torture by rogue American troops or agents puts all Americans at risk, especially our rank-and-file soldiers stationed in dozens of dangerous places around the globe. God forbid terrorists take American soldiers or travelers hostage and torture them as some kind of sick retaliation for Abu Gharib.” - June 15, 2004, Torture, War, and Presidential Powers

“The greatest threat facing America today is the disastrous fiscal policies of our own government, marked by shameless deficit spending and Federal Reserve currency devaluation. It is this one-two punch-- Congress spending more than it can tax or borrow, and the Fed printing money to make up the difference-- that threatens to impoverish us by further destroying the value of our dollars.”

“The constant refrain that bringing our troops home would demonstrate a lack of support for them must be one of the most amazing distortions ever foisted on the American public.” - March 20, 2007, The Upcoming Iraq War Funding Bill

“Politicians throughout history have tried to solve every problem conceivable to man, always failing to recognize that many of the problems we face result from previous so-called political solutions. Government cannot be the answer to every human ill. Continuing to view more government as the solution to problems will only make matters worse.”
