It is estimated that the event began with a crowd of about 500 people, swelling to nearly 1,000 by the rally's end! (Pretty amazing for a rally where Dr. Paul was not in attendance!)

(Fox in Austin has actually been pretty decent to Ron Paul. They've even added a Ron Paul Tracker (http://media.myfoxaustin.com/politics/RonPaulTracker.htm) page for him!)

Austin Tea Party March & Rally

Thank you Ron Paul Revolution everywhere, for all your efforts today!! :D

I was there today, marching down Congress and at the lake for the re-enactment. It was truly spectacular. We even sang the National Anthem and America the Beautiful in front of the water.

I guessed 1k people were there, but felt I was exaggerating. 500 seemed more reasonable but it was LOADED with humans just loving the experience. The energy was thrilling.

We get low turn out to most of our Meetups (very low), but apparently EVERYONE came out to par-tea!

How big is your meetup group?

1,172 members

(I'm guessing about 300 are out of state & signed on to watch our calendar or post on the message board)

Austin really does have a FUN & dedicated bunch! Very cool, considering Austin goes OVERWHELMINGLY Democrat in every election (Travis County is pretty much the only county in Texas that votes that way). We hope to see something different in March! ;)

Austin's meetup is comprised of *actual* conservative Republicans, Libertarians, lots of Independents, and quite a few Dems. Diversity rules!

The official estimate from the crowd control expert at the Austin Police Dept. was that we had 1,000+ people. We were only expecting a couple hundred, so we hadn't filed for a parade permit, but when the police saw the size of the crowd, they blocked off the street for us and gave us a police escort of motorcycle cops.

The video of the parade is only about 1/2 of the crowd. It went on quite a bit longer than that -- and at the end of the parade we also had our very own Baby Blimp replica of the official Ron Paul blimp flying high! (drat, I was carrying that and I didn't get in the video!)

You may not have noticed, but in the boat, we had 2 people wearing George Bush and Hillary Clinton masks guarding the boxes of the various policies their Administrations put in place and they were fighting trying to save them as our Ron Paul revolutionaries pitched them overboard! The 8-yr old girl at the back of the boat was hancuffed in chains carrying the "National Debt" box, and she was freed and threw that one overboard herself as the crowd on the shores of the lake cheered!

We had a heck of a lot of fun and the turnout was - in the words of Wolf Blitzer - Amazing...amazing! Thank you everyone for making this a great event!

i was a part of this, the mike sound was a disappointment but the march down congress was amazing. to actually have the right lane to ourselves was not was i was expecting... i was in the front and as we landed on the lake i could still look up and see people coming across the bridge, the whole time we kept looking back going "this is never ending" it didnt seem like that many people were at the capitol , but that walk was great.
