Most everyone has seen the short clip featuring the loudly wrong plump young man being called out by Ron Paul, here's the full show in 3 parts:

hat tip (http://codesmithy.wordpress.com/2007/07/05/ron-paul-on-morton-downey-jr-show-1988/)

I had a hard time watching it, it's very irritating, Ron Paul must be very brave to expose himself to that sort of vitriolic atmosphere.

Yeah, I couldn't watch the whole thing. It's funny to see the similarities between him and some modern day 'news' shows. Really, we haven't matured as a nation much have we?

Of over 200+ comments on the videos, not one is anti-paul... not one single person

Death from lung cancer

In 1996, Downey was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to have one of his lungs removed. He did a complete about-face on tobacco use, going from a one-time member of the National Smokers Alliance to a staunch anti-smoking activist. He continued to speak against smoking until his death from lung cancer in 2001 at age 68.

Looks like Ron Paul was right in more ways than one.

But, Downey never did fully accept his responsibility it seems:

He also blamed tobacco companies for lying to consumers about cigarettes.

Personally, I smoked 2 packs a day from the age of 17 until my late 20's. I quit cold turkey and have been smoke free since 1995. I don't blame cigarette companies (ever how slimy they are/have been) for my smoking habit. Our government, in many ways shielded and subsidized big tobacco for decades; to me that's the real issue. I certainly wasn't "lied" into smoking. People have known for decades that smoking wasn't exactly a healthy habit.

LOL it does remind one of a FOXNEWS interview show doesn't it?
