My response:

"but the more fundamental question is whether the party wants to brook theories that are antithetical to the core values of our Republic--specifically, that America is an unambiguous force for good in the world, that the radical Islamists are, in truth, the agents of evil."

You seem to assert that America is not capable of and has never perpetrated evil. One need only remember the Tuskeegee Airmen or the various dictators we've supported in their rise to power to realize the absurdity of this claim. American leaders have thought throughout history that they have a sovereign right to subvert the will of the people in other countries and decide for them how their country should be led, and that is creating anger around the world.

The 9/11 hijackers, monsters that they were, certainly weren't born hating America. America interfered in their country politics, stationed troops in Saudi Arabia (which is thought to be holy ground) and ran sorties over the Fertile Crescent, not to mention the million deaths said to be caused by the embargo. Then there was the time that George Bush, Sr. advised the Iraqis to rise up against Sadaam Hussein, but gave them no military support, hearkening back to the Bay of Pigs invasion. Hussein quickly butchered them. These things create anger and hostility, and these policies do indeed breed terrorists.

A man is talking about abolishing the Department of Education, something not talked about by any politician since...Reagan? He wants to get rid of the IRS and pare the government back to the levels a conservative government OUGHT to be, and over a foreign policy issue you're saying he's better suited for the Democratic Party. This is ridiculous.

I guess it is true that the Republican Party has abandoned all platforms and now runs on a double-plank platform of terrorism and militarism. Is economic conservatism effectively dead in the Republican Party? Why has the Department of Education doubled in size under Bush and a Republican Congress?

Economic conservatism would have to be dead to support a military effort of this scale or larger all the while expanding government spending on the domestic side here. Very foolish and it will be our downfall.
