A denial of service attack has taken PledgeForPaul.com down. It came from several hundred IP addresses (according to the whois, based in China or Asia somewhere). I'm not sure how long the site will be down.

While waiting for the host to respond to our support ticket, I got together with some friends to make 4 Ron Paul signs for a late night sign posting in our city (Cedar Rapids, Iowa).

Iowa grows a lot of corn

This is the Cedar Rapids tree of 5 seasons logo. Almost everyone in CR should recognize it.

Quaker Oats is based in Cedar Rapids (home of Captain Crunch!)

I love them except for the top one, what is it supposed to be a windmill or a sunflower? :D

Haha. Nice signs that incorporate the essence of CR.

Why does it look like your windows are shrinkwrapped?

Most likely to keep drafts out for the winter. It gets cooold up here.

All I can say is again, the other campaigns couldn't even buy the level of creative talent we have in this movement.

I haven't heard of any other rp related DOS attacks. You may be the first.

It was clearly a denial of service attack - not sure if I'll be able to get the site back up.

The first attack started at 11:57 pm EST Dec 15th which made the site too slow to load. The web host suspended it about an hour later.

Yeah - all the lowes/home depot stores sell plastic window covers like this. Covering the windows in Dec/Jan/Feb saves about $50 per month and makes the edges of the house the same temp as everywhere else. Winter wind is a big deal in Iowa.

This seems like something that should be getting mainstream news coverage.

A grassroots site for a Presidential candidate being taken down by a foreign botnet.

That seems huge.

If there was some way to track down who did it (which is likely impossible). For all we know it was a ron paul supporter who didn't like the idea of showing the number of people pledging to vote for him.

Move along. . .nothing to see here.

3 minutes before the 16th, huh? I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

I'm wondering if they thought they were taking down the actual donation website?

What hosting provider are you using?

One of the ones I use was able to keep one of my sites online while it was being hit with a 200Mbp/sec DOS attack. They blocked it at their routers, I didn't even need to pay extra for a dedicated firewall or anything.
