Russert is one of the toughest interviews out there, and its almost routine for candidates appearing on his show to stumble after tough questions, but knowing RP, he'll own Russert, and as a result, own the audience as well.

To build off your point, I don't think Ron will have a problem with it because, well, he actually believes what he says. His voting record speaks for itself. How many other candidates can throw up the clip he can of the anti-war speech before it even began (why don't we see that more often anyways)? Perhaps Russert will dig up a few skeletons though, who knows.

It's about time! Maybe this is better though since it's so close to the primaries! Russert and his research staff are working to find some skeletons in Ron Paul's closet! Not sure what he can bring up besides the newsletter! He grilled Giuliani last week and I hope he attacks Romney today!

Today's hour interview with Romney was question after question about his flip flops. I missed Giuliani's interview but heard it was brutal as well.

Ron Paul's is going to be sweet, Russert has no such ammunition. He'll ask about denouncing Racist Donations. Ron Paul, I thought, answered fairly well on that on the NOW program. He'll definately ask about running third party. He'll definitely ask about bottom up campaigning, TEA PARTY...

He may ask about drug legalization, income taxes, probably lead in on how possible are these ideas.

Good point. Even though this is huge, I still expect the media to be the same OLD, ARCHAIC MEDIA that it is and Dr. Paul will undoubtedly get some BS questions.

No matter how much support Ron Paul gets, our corporate masters in the media don't want a Ron Paul Presidency (better start getting used to the idea if you're reading ;)).

If youre worried about how Russert will treat Ron based on how he treated Rudy, just remember all the ammo he had to work with in Rudy's case. Ron can handle any question thrown at him and always impresses people when he has the time to explain himself. These are the moments when Ron Paul changes a lot of peoples minds and they see why he votes the way he does.

Think about it. Name a SINGLE instance in an interview where Ron has stumbled when he has plenty of time to answer questions. I cant think of one, so I dont expect this to be any different.

Its gonna be good.

Forget global warming questions, that will be the easy stuff. He will go after Ron about "the newsletter" and contributions from hate groups, and not voting for the medal of honor for Mother Theresa, Rosa Parks, Ronald Reagan, Charles Shultz, blah, blah, blah...

This will be a very critical appearance. The moment people hear his name and see his face for the first time.

The newsletter will probably be brought up and he'll answer it by saying he didn't write it, guilt by association will be brought up to go along with that and he'll answer like he did on PBS' NOW, I think his voting against the medals and willing to cough up the dough himself is a pretty cool story and one that you can really respect him on. I think Congressman Paul will do very well! I expect more attacks on some of his positions being that Russert is really a Democrat.

If global warming is thrown in Rons face he should stress some personal concern..
Then he needs to throw up that NASA has had a problem with historical data after Y2K. Its made all recent years look susiciously like they have been worse than the years before 2000.

http://digg.com/tech_news/Blogger_finds_Y2K_bug_in_NASA_Climate_Data

This data has been cited in everything relating to Global warming including Al Gores book. NASA has admitted and fixed the problem, but on the LD! Everyone still thinks the sky is falling.

It was a speech Dr. Ivers gave in Iowa after CNN. In a nutshell, Huckabee hits the hype machine too early, fizzles out, and leaving Ron Paul to hit his stride at just the right time; aka a few weeks before the primaries.

Dr. Paul needs clearer explanations on how he will protect the country without the empire. Most people cannot grasp this. He also needs a much better answer for global warming. He can do this without compromising his beliefs, but also make it clear that his policies (ending subsidies, free market competition, cutting Pentagon energy consumption...they use more energy than most countries in the world...) will address the problem if there is one. He also needs to break down how personal property rights will enforce pollution issues. Most people I know think he is crazy on that issue, and I STILL have not been able to articulate what it will "look like" in the real world, because he does not explain it very well.

Also, DOE. He MUST explain more about the DOE and why it is bad, not just say he is going to "get rid of it".

He also must slow Russert down and take more control of the interview.

Correct. He needs to take the time, now that he is being given an hour on these shows, to explain the VISION. The days of quick answer "I will get rid of the Dept of Education" are over.

When asked about this. He needs to articulate his reasoned view of why a State run program would make Education MORE efficient and that this would be a long transition.

He also needs to emphasize that he has had Bold Leadership in the face of adversity in Congress. And that his consistent voting record shows his strength to take us in a New Direction toward a better future.

These are the times to articulate just as Reagan did, because they have the same views. Presenting the vision is how you sound presidential, and get elected.

Exactly correct, and this is where he will either make it or break it. Dr. Paul does not equate well with 15 second soundbytes, as his well thought out ideas require some time to explain and more time to digest.

I think he will show the American public something they are not used to, in a candidate who believes what he says rather than what the polls dictate is the answer most likely to win votes.

If this does not work, the fault is the American public's, not Dr. Paul's. All he can do is offer his platform and hope there are enough of us out there who stopped drinking the Koolaid to understand.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with this post. He is going to do his best to destroy Ron Paul with that 1992(?) newsletter fiasco. Tie that in with his views on states' rights, KKK, etc. this could get ugly. I hope Ron is prepared for the worst and has the appropriate comebacks for these type of smear-tactic questions that are surely coming.

This interview IMHO is going to make or break this campaign.

FireofLiberty
12-16-2007, 01:18 PM
Someone from the campaign needs to sit down with Ron and work with him on his answers and prep him for the interview. Have that person play as Russert and ask the kinds of the questions that might come up so Ron can be well-prepared to respond when they do come up during the actual interview.

richk
12-16-2007, 01:26 PM
Exactly. When you are as candid and open as Ron is, there are a lot of votes/speeches/guilt by association "tidbits" that can be taken out of context to portray him as a racist. It is of the utmost importance for Ron to come out of this interview relatively unscathed. I guess it depends on how much we have pissed off Russert with e-mails. :(
I truly hope it will be a fair interview, but I have my doubts.
