California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order Wednesday to phase out sales of new gasoline-fueled vehicles by 2035 in a bid to combat climate change amid a record-breaking wildfire season marked by weather he called "unprecedented."
...
California would be the first state in the nation to ban sales of internal combustion engines, though the governor said 15 other countries including China, Germany, France and Norway have already "established benchmark goals."

Newsom called the order a "bold and big step" that would promote innovation and create jobs.

How can a current Governor dictate what happens 25 years in the future?

This is crazy.

in a bid to combat climate change amid a record-breaking wildfire season marked by weather he called "unprecedented."
It feels as fires almost suspicious before the American elections? or during i pretty much remember a story about a fire a few years back in 2015?

Newsom called the order a "bold and big step" that would promote innovation and create jobs.
These jobs would be limited because what they are trying to do is to create automated vehicles.

How can a current Governor dictate what happens 25 years in the future?

Because they are driven by a potical ideology driven agenda.

If humans had wings and could fly, Newsom would outlaw flight.

How long before every state in the nation does this?

If Joe Biden/Harris is elected this will likeky happen and they might make a law to forbids anyone driving powered gas vehicles.

So people will buy their cars in another state and drive them in California.

Kaulifornia...

They waste ALL of that biomass energy and pollute the world with megatons of smoke and carbon by-products by letting the state burn to the ground, then they do this.

Maybe they will come to their senses and let people drive "wood gas" powered cars.
That would help clean up the dead wood that keeps burning down their forests.

Other states in the nation should sue California for all the pollution.

Truly. It's been horrible here (AZ) for a couple weeks, though it's been better for the past few days.

In a related note, I was entertained when they told people that their COVID face diapers would be ineffective at filtering the smoke particles, which are larger than coronaviruses and most respiratory droplets.

How can a current Governor dictate what happens 25 years in the future?

They are just starting to flex their muscles.

The governor of California was able to overturn the 1st Amendment, totally and utterly, and by nothing more than executive fiat.

Banning your freedom of mobility is child's play.

Berkeley passes "checkout regulation" at the grocery store. Behavior modification through extinction and or convenience. You will be assimilated. God forbid the city allows you to buy food with more sugar than they deem necessary for you.

Berkeley Passes 'Healthy Checkout' Bill, Clearing Junk Food From Checkout Aisles

The checkout aisle of grocery stores isn't home to just a cash register; there's also a variety of candies, chips, and sweets you can pick up. This front of store promotion is often where kids of all ages can get their sugar cravings satisfied, but also helps push and market junk food products.

If you could change the products available in the checkout aisle to be less caloric and sugar-laden, it might have an effect in helping combat obesity. The city of Berkeley is willing to give that a shot, as they became the first city to pass a "healthy checkout" bill.

he new law, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News, applies to grocery stores larger than 2,500 square feet. It restricts products available at the checkout stands to those with no more than 5 grams of added sugar or less than 250 milligrams of sodium per serving.

Junk food itself isn't banned in these stores, and could be found in the regular candy, chips, or snacks sections. This law just takes that prime product placement section and has stores give better-for-you options a shot in that area.

Imagine that the government telling a private business how they must design their displays and organize their stores. Wait soon there will be some 600 pound person suing some grocer because they had junk food too close to the check out lines.

Its coming, but they will go straight to the manufacturer as they do with guns.

Oh the irony of a state that is experiencing rolling blackouts, that cannot even keep its lights on, mandating ELECTRIC vehicles within 15 years.

Leftists run on emotion, not logic, reason or common sense. If they could just put that excess emotional energy into their vehicles.
