This was posted on Grassroots Central also, but we may have some newer members who are hanging out here for the Tea Party... some folks are confused about WHEN to donate their money...

ALL donations for the Tea Party should be made between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Sunday, December 16th, 2007.

This is the time period that the official site www.RonPaul2008.com uses and it will be the time period that the press uses to calculate whether or not we raise our $10 million in one 24-hour period.

On the Nov. 5th money bomb, I remember a lot of donations came in in the hour or two after 12 midnight on Nov. 5th - and were not counted towards the total for Nov. 5th. These were probably donations from folks living in the western US time zones, who thought that they were donating on the 5th. This Dec. 16, we need to maximize our donation efforts and make sure everyone's donation counts on the correct day.

EDIT: The countdown ticker on www.TeaParty07.com is not good enough, since that seems to work off of users' own computer clock, which may or may not be set to the correct time/date.

Edit again: If you need to know what time it is in Eastern Standard Time, click on the link below (you'll need java on your computer):

http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java

If you don't have java on your computer (or you're not sure), click here for the correct time:

Edit: Thought this guy's post should be added to the original post:

12:00 am to 11:59 pm is the standard 24 hour day that software programs use to calculate total donated for a 'day'. There is no way programmers could ignore the 12:00 am minute in calcuations or they would be ignoring any funds donated during that 60 seconds.

Well, here's hoping that everyone doesn't donate in that 60 second period. :p

It's probably not a good idea to donate right at midnight anyway... not sure if the server could handle it if 1,000 people donate right at 12:00 am.

It's best just to keep bumping the thread... people tend to ignore the stickies. :)

EDIT: oh well - got stickied anyway... it's all good.

Amen, that's how I like to see it!

He is mistaken... the ISO 8601 standard is very explicit for both the 12 and 24 hour time formats.

In the 24-hour time notation, the day begins at midnight, 00:00, and the last minute of the day begins at 23:59.

I find it hard to believe that any software developer would ignore the guidelines and leave a minute out of the calcuation.

Apologies, not a programmer - just attempting to be helpful - all the information I've seen thus far have referenced 00:01 EST as the start. I'll gladly edit the post to add the extra minute to each time zone.

It's okay. It's just an estimate so that folks don't donate in the wrong time zone... most folks aren't going to donate that close to midnight anyway.

I just donated $200 instead of just the $100 I originally pledged - I hope this will not mess up anyone's mathematical calculations for today! ;)

The extra money was in return for my other favorite message board's owner using his format to endorse Alan Keyes!

I don't know, but if I were on the HQ staff, I sure would do my best to honor that request. The Tea Party is going to make history, so it's in HQ's best interest to maximize donations today.

Not sure if this is an online donation day. Keep hearing what he is expected to raise online. Hope the mailed in donations count toward today's total.

If I remember correctly, on the big Nov. 5th donation day, HQ dumped a lot of the "offline" donations into the total on that day.

Alert to Donation Times on TeaParty site

The TeaParty site shows the official donation times incorrectly!!

Official December 16th donation times are from
12:00 am to 12:00pm EST (That would NOON!!)

Should be 1200 AM to 1159 PM!!!!! Or it should be 12 AM 16th to 12 AM 17th.

I remember specifically on Nov 5th that the donations until 12pm pst DID COUNT! We raised about $4 million to 4.1 million and got another 150k to 2k after 12pm est.

No they did not. Trevor contacted the official campaign and they stated that only donations that come in during Dec. 16th in EASTERN STANDARD TIME count towards today's totals.

If you want your donation to count for today, you must do it before 11:59 pm EST tonight.

And I wouldn't suggest waiting until the last minute - if you've got money to donate, DONATE NOW.

We were raising more money per hour in the last 20 minutes than ever before in the 24 hour period. Then it suddenly shot down because the website was overloaded and most were unable to get into it anymore(I know I couldn't). This is completely different than Nov 5th as it slowed down as the night continued and very few waited until the last minute. For anybody who planned on donating in the 24 hour period and had waited until the last minute (As way too many did according to graphs its quite insane) http://paulcash.slact.net/ If you were unable to get your donation through donate whenever you can get it through. Anybody who isn't donating please don't visit Ron Pauls main website so others donating can.

from gambling 911:

"The 24 hour period officially ends at 3 am EST with the West Coast closure."

http://www.gambling911.com/Ron-Paul-121707.html

i donated another $100 at 10:22 PM mt time. right when i got home from work. i don't live on east coast time, so i donated based on how i live. if the campaign decides not to count my donation towards the 16th, i'll just call my credit card and have them stop payment. i can use that money towards slim jims or something useful.
