NEC has introduced a touchless, multimodal biometric authentication terminal with high precision face and iris recognition technologies for a variety of markets such as access control and payments, the company announced.

Equipped with high-precision authentication, the terminal combines biometric information from three sources to enable authentication with a false accept rate of less than one in ten million. The terminal’s built-in camera is customized to user height, and simultaneously detect the face and iris by adjusting the focus and lighting. As a result, authentication is performed in nearly two seconds.

NEC claims its latest terminal can recognize people wearing facial masks or gloves due to its biometric iris recognition capability.
