I guess he doesn't know what the Constitution says.
Not to mention this is how Republicans lost in 2008.

They're already bailing out lots and lots of industries via the Fed, but no doubt massive fiscal "stimulus" is on the way as well.
It was about $1 trillion last time; I'm thinking about twice that by year's end.

I oppose all bailouts to air and cruise industries . First off no cruise industry is needed or a vital part of the economy that cannot be replaced by a real job . Second the airlines should be let to go belly up and replaced eventually by a real company .

2008, the year of John McCain. Can’t imagine that would hurt the GOP vote. Look at all the accolades St. McCain has had since his death. How could a GOP ticket like that go wrong?
But as to bailouts and picking winners, not a good thing. Bush and his neocons didn’t listen to public opinion. I’d wager if there was outrage from Trump’s base on any proposal, he would change directions.

Why not? He has been bailed out often enough himself.

This going to hurt him!
A question for all of you:
If I am a business owner. And the government/elected politician FORCES me to close and/or hampers my business. Do I have the right to seek compensation?
If so, from who? The corrupt politician? The folks who elected the corrupt politician, even due to blatant ignorance?
I am in NO way, shape for form advocating welfare/handouts, personal or corporate, it makes me sick to my stomach. But my own private business has been wrought by others.

They shouldn't bailout any companies but they should extend short term loans with a few month time period if need be. And if those companies can't survive when the virus abates they should fail. And any short term loan should have tons of strings. The government, state and federal, is literally telling companies they can't operate right now. They have to close up business. Where is that in that Constitution?
As far as 2008, TARP worked. It was the most successful government program is US history and it is largely unpopular because people are stupid. I am glad we listened to Ben Bernanke, a Great Depression expert, and not talk radio show hosts and gold salesmen. Otherwise, we just might be getting out of the depression now.

.
I think so. Put yourself in the position of a casino right now. All sports are shut down so there is no sports betting, so your online business stops. Most physical casinos were shut down by the government decree. And even if you could stay open, air travel has come to a halt.
This whole idea of letting tens of millions of people lose their jobs and multiyear bankruptcies instead of getting companies through the next few months is the most insanely bad cost/benefit analysis ever besides the immorality of it.

A 15 year cleansing Great Depression is just what the country needs right now, says friends of big government everywhere. Not taking extreme action now will lead to much bigger government like national health care soon. All those Great Depression programs came about by letting the bottom fall out of the world.
The Fed could have backstopped banks for a few months in 1930 and you would have a short depression. Those chose option B, the Rothbard way, and let them fail the world stopped until 1945
FRIEDMAN That is a very general statement that has very little content. I think the Austrian business-cycle theory has done the world a great deal of harm. If you go back to the 1930s, which is a key point, here you had the Austrians sitting in London, Hayek and Lionel Robbins, and saying you just have to let the bottom drop out of the world. You’ve just got to let it cure itself. You can’t do anything about it. You will only make it worse. You have Rothbard saying it was a great mistake not to let the whole banking system collapse. I think by encouraging that kind of do-nothing policy both in Britain and in the United States, they did harm.
Even Hayek, who won the Nobel Prize for this crap, admits he was wrong about everything which I posted numerous quotes from.

The thought "my way or the highway" overwhelms my brain.
If I "vote" my way the right way, and others do not, I want compensated.
If I "vote" my way the right way, and others do not, I should not have to suffer bailing them out with MY heard earned money because of their ignorance/sheer stupidity.

Comrade, just bask in the glory of the MAGA It is great and good. /jamesiv :tears:
Btw, when you register a business with the state, you have turned ownership and control of the business over to the state. This is where the state derives the power to force the business closed. It is property of the state. People need to stop asking for permission to earn a living!

Everyone who ever won a Nobel Prize in any field is a bad person. No exceptions. Period.

A 15 year cleansing Great Depression
More like 15 months, if all restraints on the market were lifted.
is just what the country needs right now, says friends of big government everywhere. Not taking extreme action now will lead to much bigger government like national health care soon. All those Great Depression programs came about by letting the bottom fall out of the world.
That may well be true, given our politics.
The Fed could have backstopped banks for a few months in 1930 and you would have a short depression.
Printing money to prevent market clearing only compounds the underlying problem (i.e. inefficient use of resources).
Those chose option B, the Rothbard way, and let them fail the world stopped until 1945
Short of outright communism, it's difficult to imagine anything less "the Rothbard way" than US economic policy during the 30s.
Even Hayek, who won the Nobel Prize for this crap, admits he was wrong about everything which I posted numerous quotes from.
He was right the first time.
