Why isn't Dr. Paul eating Huck alive!! I mean come on, this guy is so liberal its not even funny. He wants to tax everything to pay for the Socialist state. That is why he was elected in a Democratic State like Arkansas!!

I really wish the campaign would start talking about how Dr. Paul is the real deal, and Yuckabee is a sham imposter.

What a dufus. Cut spending FIRST! Switching taxes from one form to another does nothing.

dude, fuck that shit

If i'm not mistaken, they have a national sales tax in britain, and that's why their McDonald's "value" menu is 99 Pence (roughly two dollars)

It's better than the IRS, but not ideal. I was trying to explain this to an older woman who I work with, but it just didn't enter her mind that instead of having one or the other, we could have neither. I said this over and over, we don't need either of them, but she still defended the FairTax.

Maybe he wants to make a VAT tax like they have for the EU.

Hmm, that sounds interesting?

The FAIR TAX is by far not FAIR

The wealthy pay less in taxes

the poor and middle class pay more

the average american spends $120 for every $100 they earn

so you pay a higher percentage on the total spent.

Even if the fair tax was the same percent as the income tax you'd be getting taxed on 20 more for every 100 earned

It's sad how misinformed you guys are. And you're RP supporters? Ron Paul has said he would vote FOR the Fair Tax if it came to the floor! Ron Paul has a superior position on the Tax issue because he is for reducing spending as priority #1. However, the fair tax is a VAST improvement over our current tax code. And it's not Huckabee that came up with it.

Do yourself a favor and read this book before talking about the Fair Tax. http://www.amazon.com/Fair-Tax-Book-Saying-Goodbye/dp/0060875496/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1197671077&sr=8-1

Should be called the 'Fare' tax.

I hope you one day realize that the Fair Tax is a tax on what you BUY, not what you EARN. So you are not taxed 1 cent on anything you earn.

I hope you understand by quoting that one line you took it out of context and twisted the meaning.

Fed income tax on my check is 25%

so for every 100 I earn I pay $25 in Fed income tax

the average american spends $120 for every $100 they earn

meaning they spend $20 more than they have(ie CREDIT)

so if the Fair Tax was the same 25% and is charged on what you spend then you are actually paying $30 in taxes for the $100 you earned because you are taking $20 on credit

I was being kind of a smart mouth with my VAT tax statement, but in general I'm not for the "fair" tax. I can understand Ron's position from a political/pragmatic standpoint, but this is why I'm negative on it.

1. It obfuscates the principal that we should be taxed on our income in the first place. There really shouldn't be a tax on income because it is unconstitutional. I would prefer a "fair" tax over the income tax, but this attitude I'm going to destroy the IRS and replace it with a fair tax is so cheesy. It is an admitted attitude of compromise. Bottom Line: IT IS STILL A TAX.

2. Hypothetically, if Huckabee won the election, he would morph with the elitists that he follows and discard the "fair" tax. Why? Because the last thing the big boys want is a "fair" tax. Our whole economy is driven by consumer spending. A national sales tax in lieu of an income tax would discourage consumer spending. This would throw the current economic system out of kilter since the sales tax would discourage spending and encourage saving. The current money system needs people to spend and not save in order to sustain itself. Disbarring any drastic changes, this "fair" tax under almost ideal conditions will not happen.

The "23%" rate is only 23% if you calculate it a certain way. If you calculate it the same way normal state sales tax is typically calculated, it comes out to about 30%.

That said, if we can't get rid of the income tax altogether, I WOULD definitely support a sales tax in place of it. Such a high sales tax would piss people off enough that they would actually protest the tax rate in hopes of getting it lowered. It would also greatly simplify our tax system and really would make it more fair.

The income tax system is a complete sham. There are thousands of pages of rules and regulations and loopholes and stuff. People have to hire professionals just to figure out how much they owe! WTF is up with that?? And we have all kinds of loopholes where the really rich can end up paying lower rates than the poor and middle class. The income tax is a huge assault on freedom, and while a sales tax is still a horrible plan, its about 100x better than the income tax system we have.

/future accountant who doesn't mind if Ron Paul makes his chosen profession partially obsolete.
