A militia group calling itself "Jund al Imam al Hujja" has accused the United States of aggression in Iraq and threatened to attack U.S. sites in the country if Washington doesn't withdraw troops and civilians, Rudaw reported Aug. 27.
It remains unclear if the group has the capabilities to pose a serious threat to the U.S. presence in the area, although its threats reflect the grave anti-U.S. sentiment in Iraq.
More Iraqi lawmakers are calling for a U.S. withdrawal from the country amid high nationalist and pro-Iran sentiment in Iraq's parliament. The country's government, however, has reaffirmed the security benefits of a U.S. presence in Iraq.
