A former NBC News executive is taking over Shareblue Media, a progressive news site funded by left-wing political operative David Brock.

Allison Girvin, who previously headed NBC News's Business, Tech, and Media unit, is the new CEO of Shareblue Media. Brock once described Shareblue as a "Breitbart of the Left." Girvin has also worked at Bloomberg, ABC News and HuffPost.

CNN media correspondent Brian Stelter reported in his newsletter:

Shareblue Media, a progressive news site funded by David Brock, has a new CEO.

Allison Girvin, most recently the head of the NBC News Business, Tech & Media Unit, is taking over the website, replacing Katie Paris. Girvin previously held key positions at Bloomberg, HuffPost, and ABC News. "With a long and distinguished career in journalism, Allison is the ideal leader to bring our vision of Shareblue to fruition," Brock, the chairman of Shareblue, said in a statement.

Shareblue is one of a constellation of websites backed by Brock and the American Bridge 21st Century Foundation super PAC. Brock wants to increase the site's impact heading into 2020.

Brock, the former right-wing muckraker turned Clintonite, also founded the left-wing media watchdog Media Matters for America, as well as the liberal super PACs American Bridge 21st Century Foundation and Correct The Record.

Brock told Vanity Fair that his vision for the site in 2017, shortly after President Donald Trump's election, was one of holding to account anyone who worked with the White House.

"I think there's an opening for a media platform that is openly, avowedly liberal, pro-Democrat, that wants Democrats to win," he said. "But here’s the distinction. We were going to be the voice for Hillary—or, at least, a voice for Hillary. And now that we are not going to do that, our approach is going to be to tell the truth as we see it about both sides, not just the Republicans."
