U.S. Representatives Richard Neal and Peter King, co-chairs of the Friends of Ireland caucus, have called a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland a "needless provocation" and a threat to the Good Friday Agreement, The Guardian reported July 31. They further said they would block a potential free trade agreement with the United Kingdom if the peace deal faced peril.

The Friends of Ireland caucus is a group of bipartisan U.S. legislators that support peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland and includes representation from nine states and the District of Columbia.
