Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy has a message for the state’s Supreme Court: If you’re going to force taxpayers to fund abortions, that money is coming out of your budget. The Alaska Supreme Court has continually ruled that the state must fund abortions, so Dunleavy slashed the amount it has been spending on the deadly practice from the state judiciary’s budget.
Via a line-item veto, Dunleavy reduced the budget of the state’s courts by $334,700 – the amount of public money spent on elective abortions annually.
“The Legislative and Executive Branch are opposed to state-funded elective abortions; the only branch of government that insists on state-funded elective abortions is the Supreme Court,” the governor’s office explained of its fiscal year 2020 budget (https://omb.alaska.gov/ombfiles/20_budget/Law/Enacted/20crdetail_law.pdf). “The annual cost of elective abortions is reflected by this reduction.”
“The Federal Government also prohibits any federal funds paying for elective abortions,” the document notes.

Alaska governor Mike Dunleavy imposed a budget cut on the Alaska courts to punish the Alaska Supreme Court’s pro-abortion policymaking. Now, the Supreme Court is begging the legislature to get their staff allowances back.
Must Read Alaska reports (https://mustreadalaska.com/alaska-supreme-court-asks-for-veto-override/): “On Wednesday, the Alaska Supreme Court issued a statement to the Alaska Legislature asking for an override to Gov. Michael Dunleavy’s budget cut to the court system.
The justices asked that their cost of living allowances for their staff be restored, totaling $1.756 million. They also asked $337,700 for two appellate courts. The Dunleavy Administration had given the justification that if the Supreme Court wants the State to pay for elective abortions, it should do so out of its own budget, since both the executive branch and the legislative branch have decided the state should not be paying for these abortions.
The judges used their letter to explain about the three co-equal branches of government.”

Dunleavy is clearly playing for the courts the world’s tiniest violin.
