Shinzo Abe, the Japanese prime minister, is set to offer himself as a mediator amid the escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran.
Mr Trump landed in Tokyo on Saturday for a four-day visit during which Mr Abe will discuss the proposal with him, and seek his consent.
The Japanese leader (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/shinzo-abe/)is considering a visit to Tehran net month to mediate with President Hassan Rouhani, according to media reports in Japan, and a final decision may depend on the results of his talks with Mr Trump.
Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Iranian foreign minister, visited Japan earlier this month.
Shortly before his Japan trip Mr Trump ordered 1,500 extra US troops (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/05/23/pentagon-proposing-send-extra-10000-us-troops-middle-east-combat/), along with fighter jets, reconnaissance aircraft, and missile defence batteries to the Persian Gulf.
The Pentagon called it a “defensive” deployment intended to protect US troops in the region from Iran.

Japan has longstanding ties with Iran and opposed Mr Trump's decision to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. Before US sanctions on Iran, Japan was a major importer of Iranian oil.
Mr Abe first visited Iran in a personal capacity in 1983 and has continued links with the country's leadership.
Reacting to the idea of him mediating Akihisa Nagashima, a former Japanese defence minister, said: "This is what we call quiet diplomacy."

President Donald Trump on Monday backed the Japanese prime minister's interest in using his country's good relations with Iran to help broker a possible dialogue between the U.S. and its nemesis in the Middle East.Trump, who has said he's open to having a dialogue with Iran, has sought to downplay fears of military conflict, but the Iranians have said they have no interest in communicating with the White House.
Trump commented during a day that opened with the high pageantry of his meeting with Japan's emperor but quickly gave way to deliberations over thorny global issues, including North Korea, trade tensions with his Japanese host and the escalating friction between the U.S. and Iran.
"I know that the prime minister and Japan have a very good relationship with Iran so we'll see what happens," he said while meeting with Abe in Tokyo.
"The prime minister's already spoken to me about that and I do believe that Iran would like to talk. And if they'd like to talk, we'd like to talk also. We'll see what happens ... nobody wants to see terrible things happen, especially me."

Haha, he found a work-around to Dianne Feinstein's sleezy underhanded talkblock.

That's some 3D chess if I've ever seen it.

I hope it goes farther than this, the deepstate is still telling them that he will lose in 2020 so we may not see much progress until then unless the prosecutions of the deepstate start happening first.

Donald Trump is currently visiting Japan, whose prime minister is said to be considering serving as a mediator in possible peace talks between Iran and the United States.
The United States is not looking to overthrow Iran’s government, President Donald Trump said on Monday, as tensions between the two countries flared with Washington deploying troops to the region.
“I know so many people from Iran, these are great people. It [Iran] has a chance to be a great country, with the same leadership. We are not looking for regime change, I just wanna make that clear,” Trump said at a press conference in Tokyo, adding that he thinks “we’ll make a deal” with Tehran.

Are there any other countries that we conquered that can help encourage Iran to be a better actor?

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will meet Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei later this month with Tokyo hoping to mediate between Washington and Tehran, a report said Sunday.

According to the Mainichi Shimbun report, Abe's planned meeting with influential Khamenei will be the first such talks between a Japanese premier and Tehran's supreme leader.
US President Donald Trump said last week he remained open to talks with Tehran during his state visit to Tokyo, appearing to have given the green light to Abe's plan.
Abe will also meet Iran's president Hassan Rouhani before meeting Khamenei during his tour to Iran from June 12 to 14, the newspaper said, citing unnamed government sources.
