CNN summary should be read with few grains of salt as it had been accused of pushing Deep State narratives also in the past. But Dems controlled Congress could exploit this latest twist to go after GOP-MAGA wing with renewed zeal with help from media and possibly from factions of Deep State. There are some signs of fracturing of Deep State, neoconservative wing still seems to be siding with MAGA but critical wing seem to on the rise again. Sudden 8 points lead for Biden and stunning NYT 'anti-semitic' MAGA cartoon this week might also point to further shift among liberal wing of media. There are also indications that so called 'fake opposition' (Pelosi, Schumer et al.) might not be able to control resurgent liberal wing of Dems in time ahead to defend MAGA who was just called the 'The most pro-Israel President ever' by respected neoconservative Pipes.
MAGA's 'Mexican Judge' bias statements and tweet showing Deputy AG Rosenstein behind bars may also come back to complicate things further for him.

William Barr is in deep trouble

(CNN)Attorney General William Barr did two strange things between the time he received special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian interference in the 2016 election and when he released it to Congress and the public.

The first came on March 24 when, two days after receiving the Mueller report, Barr released a four-page summary letter in which he made clear his conclusion that the report found no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians and that Mueller hadn't made any recommendation as to whether President Donald Trump should be charged with obstructing justice.

The second came on the morning of April 18 when Barr, with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein by his side, held a press conference to reiterate those findings -- in remarkably Trumpian language (https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/18/politics/donald-trump-bill-barr-william-barr-mueller-report/index.html) -- 90 minutes before actually making a redacted version of the report public.
On Tuesday night, those two moves came into far sharper -- and more troubling -- focus when it was revealed that Mueller sent a letter to Barr on March 27 (https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/30/politics/mueller-barr-complained-russia-probe/index.html) expressing concern about the ways in which Barr's summary document described the evidence surrounding obstructive behavior. Mueller did not make issue with any of the factual statements in Barr's four-page letter but rather the lack of nuance on obstruction -- and the resultant media coverage, according to CNN's Laura Jarrett's reporting.

Another deep state "leak" has hit the tape, and as usual it has gone to the WaPo (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/mueller-complained-that-barrs-letter-did-not-capture-context-of-trump-probe/2019/04/30/d3c8fdb6-6b7b-11e9-a66d-a82d3f3d96d5_story.html?utm_term=.620ca6589b2a)and NYT (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/30/us/politics/mueller-barr.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage)almost at the exact same time... but this it's even more laughable than usual.

In what the WaPo breathlessly reports late on Tuesday was a rebuke and "complaint" to Attorney General William Barr, special counsel Robert Mueller sent a letter to the AG in late March, just days after Barr sent out his summary to Congress, in which Mueller stated that Barr's 4-page summary to Congress on the sweeping Russia investigation failed to "fully capture the context, nature, and substance" of Mueller’s work and conclusions, citing a copy of the letter it had obtained using its trusted deep intel sources.
This is what Mueller said to Barr, according to the leaked NSA intercept:

"There is now public confusion about critical aspects of the results of our investigation. This threatens to undermine a central purpose for which the Department appointed the Special Counsel: to assure full public confidence in the outcome of the investigations."
And if one reads just that, it certainly does not look good for Attorney General Barr, especially just one day before his first official Congressional hearing on the topic of the Mueller report: so bad that even the absolute lunatic fringe of conspiracygate - which had mercifully shut up for the past month with its daily predictions that this member of the Trump clan is going to jail, or that website will be shut down - has roared back into life with the sage assessment that "this is bad."
Pouring more fuel on the fire, the always pithy Axios adds that "this revelation about Mueller's dissatisfaction with the characterization of his report will likely escalate the growing rift over Barr's handling of the special counsel's investigation. House Democrats, who have expressed distrust in the attorney general, are set to vote on Wednesday to allow House Judiciary Committee lawyers to question Barr at Thursday's hearing."
Or maybe not, and perhaps the WaPo/NYT report is not "so bad" if one actually reads it, because once the breathless WaPo finally does come up for air, we get to paragraph 13 - a point by which most readers have turned out - to read the following real punchline in the WaPo report:

When Barr pressed Mueller on whether he thought Barr’s memo to Congress was inaccurate, Mueller said he did not...
So, Mueller felt there was confusion... but he did not think the memo was inaccurate. Wait, what's going on here and how is this even a story? Well, if we read the rest of the above sentence, we find the true object of Mueller's "complaint":

[Mueller] felt that the media coverage of it was misinterpreting the investigation, officials said.
Which means that, as the WaPo itself reports, what Mueller was really angry with was the coverage of his report by media such as... the WaPo and the NYT?? The irony, it burns.
But wait, because if one reads even further - and yes, we know most Russiagaters have troubles getting beyond sentence one so they are excused - we find that throughout a subsequent 15 minutes telephone conversation between the special counsel and the attorney general, Mueller’s main worry was "that the public was not getting an accurate understanding of the obstruction investigation."
This goes back to what Mueller's letter requested: "that Barr release the 448-page report’s introductions and executive summaries, and made some initial suggested redactions for doing so, according to Justice Department officials," the WaPo writes.
What happened then? A few weeks later Barr did just that, and absent occasional redactions - some of which apparently revealed that Russia had taped Bill Clinton (https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-04-25/russia-taped-bill-clinton-having-phone-sex-monica-lewinsky-report)having phone sex with Monica Lewinsky - he did just that.
So if Mueller thought Barr's memo was not inaccurate, and his ire was instead targeted at the media for "misinterpreting the investigation" - although it remains unclear just how they did this, after all Mueller does not dispute that there was no collusion (yes, Russiagaters, that means you) and did not dispute Barr's conclusion of no obstruction - then what is the point of these two rather confused pieces? Well, as noted above, tomorrow Barr is scheduled to testify on Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the investigation, and the entire article is meant to focus on the headlines of the WaPo (and NYT) article, and certainly not on paragraph 13 which, not only refutes the prevailing tone that Barr did something wrong, but in fact exonerates him. But that won't have any impact on tomorrow's hearing which is now assured to be a complete kangaroo court.
As for tonight's really big, if unspoken, story - if this is the best leak Mueller has to defy Barr and the president, then Trump has indeed won.

Just few weeks ago it seemed as if Deep State was making a u-turn and was no longer opposing MAGA's regime but lately it seems there may be divisions with DS also and some factions are still opposing MAGA. This is a setback for GOP-neocon wing even if temporary and is giving Dems rebel wing an open to go after MAGA. Time will tell if Pelosi, Schumer, Booker, Adelson etc will be able to defend MAGA against this latest onslaught. PSON leaders have invested hundreds of millions in MAGA, they will not let their investments sink so easily.

Through bold leadership on Wall funding/gov shutdown, second amenedment, DACA and Iran/Venez muscular sanctions, MAGA had built an image of a courageous leader. But now some Dems seem bent on damaging that image by attacking one of his closest allies ohe has ever appointed. Rep. Cohem may have crossed the line.

DEMS HOLD BARR IN CONTEMPT (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7006385/House-Judiciary-Committee-votes-hold-Bill-Barr-CONTEMPT-Congress.html)
PELOSI: JAIL WOULD BE OVERCROWDED (https://news.grabien.com/story-pelosi-if-we-were-arresting-all-people-admin-we-would-have-o) https://www.drudgereport.com/i/logo9.gif

Here’s how contempt of Congress works (https://www.vox.com/2019/5/8/18536874/contempt-of-congress-ag-william-barr)

A House Judiciary Committee vote on a contempt of Congress citation isn’t coming out of nowhere; the Trump administration has blocked their subpoena for the Mueller report, as well as many other House subpoena requests (https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/4/25/18514161/president-trump-sues-congress-subpoena-don-mcgahn-carl-kline).
Contempt of Congress citations are a tool the House or Senate can use in cases where their subpoena requests are repeatedly denied. Congress is essentially arguing that the executive branch is stonewalling and getting in the way of their ability to conduct their constitutionally obligated oversight.
But it’s crucial to remember Congress is just making another a request here — if a more strongly worded one. Actually getting the executive branch to comply can be difficult, precisely because the executive branch is the one with the power to prosecute the individual who isn’t complying with the subpoena request.
Here’s how Congressional Research Services legislative attorney Todd Garvey explains it in a recent summary (https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R45653.pdf):
First, the criminal contempt statute permits a single house of Congress to certify a contempt citation to the executive branch for the criminal prosecution of an individual who has willfully refused to comply with a committee subpoena. Once the contempt citation is received, any prosecution lies within the control of the executive branch.

Here’s how this will work on a practical level: If the full House passes the contempt resolution, Pelosi will issue the citation for Barr to be held in contempt. She’ll pass that citation along to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia or the DOJ. Either the US attorney or the Department of Justice will likely say they don’t plan to move forward with prosecuting Barr.
That would be the end of the matter, unless Democrats pass a separate resolution to authorize going to court with Barr and the Trump administration over the Mueller report, and getting the courts to decide their subpoena request and contempt citation.
Democrats are already talking about this as their next step, one they would likely take before using their own power of inherent contempt to fine or jail the attorney general.
“We need to do the contempt parts before House counsel goes to litigate in court,” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) told reporters. “The first option would be to win in court; we have a very strong case.”
Democrats are feeling confident because the Trump administration has moved to block or deny every single subpoena request of theirs, not just the one for the Mueller report. At least one former Justice Department official in the George W. Bush administration thinks Trump’s broad refusal could potentially hurt his legal argument.
“The thing that’s unusual is the blanket refusal,” John Yoo, the former deputy assistant US attorney general in the Bush DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel, told the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/07/us/politics/trump-democrats.html). “It would be extraordinary if the president actually were to try to stop all congressional testimony on subpoenaed issues. That would actually be unprecedented if it were a complete ban.”

Bit surprising that even so called 'neocons lawyer' John Yoo is not standing up for MAGA team.
