Two days after we reported (https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-04-01/us-halts-f-35-shipment-turkey-rift-over-russian-s-400-missile-system)that the US had halted delivery of equipment related to the stealthy F-35 fighter aircraft to Turkey as part of the ongoing rift over Erdogan's plans to move forward with taking delivery of the advanced Russian S-4000 anti-air defense system, on Wednesday the US escalated the war of words with its NATO ally when Vice President Mike Pence threatened Turkey’s future role in the NATO alliance, warning it against "reckless decisions," like following through with the purchase of the Russian-made air defense system.

Pence is right for once. Ridiculous for a NATO member to buy military equipment from the supposed enemy. Kind of like the US outsourcing military manufacturing (or subcontracting) to China.

And yes, end NATO. Waste of money.

That’s why I used the term “supposed”. The entire purpose of NATO was to counter the USSR, and now, thanks to the neoconservatives, against Russia. NATO should have disbanded after the USSR collapsed.

Maybe Trump should fuck em all in the head and invite Russia to join NATO.

Well, I learned something today.

I thought NATO came into existence so the United States would have someone to sell arms to.

The entire purpose of NATO was to counter the USSR

The purpose of NATO was to keep the Russians out, but also to keep the US in and the Germans down, as the saying goes.

In other words, part of the purpose was/is to prevent war between the other European states.

That might seem an unlikely outcome, but, remove NATO (and/or the EU), and you might find it looks a lot more plausible.

A survey released Thursday reveals that while the majority of NATO members are content to rely on the American military for defense, they may not be willing to reciprocate and assist the United States.

According to The Charles Koch Institute (https://www.charleskochinstitute.org/news/on-70th-anniversary-some-nato-countries-uncertain-membership-is-worth-the-costs/), the survey was conducted by YouGov and released by both the Charles Koch Institute and RealClearPolitics. The survey polled citizens of the United States, Turkey, France, the United Kingdom and Germany in honor of NATO (https://dailycaller.com/2018/07/18/trump-expresses-doubt-on-nato/)‘s 70th-anniversary on April 4.

“People in key European NATO countries seem to want the military benefits of the alliance but aren’t so excited about meeting its most important obligations,” said Vice President of Research and Policy at the Charles Koch Institute, William Ruger. “While they are happy to have the U.S. come to their defense, a striking number of respondents thought it would be bad to be asked to assist the U.S. if it were attacked.”

Our new survey with @RealClearNews (https://twitter.com/RealClearNews?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw), conducted by @YouGov (https://twitter.com/YouGov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw), polled citizens of the United States, Turkey, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany in advance of #NATO (https://twitter.com/hashtag/NATO?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)’s 70th anniversary. 51 percent of German respondents, 59 percent of French respondents, 66 percent of respondents in the United Kingdom and almost 50 percent of those in Turkey said they believed it was a good thing to be allied with the United States.
However, 51 percent of German respondents and 57 percent of Turkish respondents believe it would be bad if they were asked to assist the United States, and only 27 percent of German respondents, 42 percent of French respondents, and 45 percent United Kingdom respondents said it would be good if they were called upon to assist the United States.

The purpose of NATO is to drain the economy of the US to subsidize the economies of our "allies".

NATO must die.
