A U.S. military commander suggested Thursday that a loose security grouping of his country, Japan, Australia and India, also known as the quad, may be shelved for now.Adm. Phil Davidson, who heads the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, said he was on a panel with the other navy chiefs at the Raisina Dialogue, a multilateral conference in New Delhi in January.
Davidson said the issue came up "several times" but Indian navy chief Adm. Sunil Lanba "made it quite clear that there wasn't an immediate potential for a quad."
"That does not omit or prevent our ability to cooperate in crisis and conflict. And we continue collectively, all of us, to seek opportunities in which we might exercise and work together moving forward," he added.

If anything that sounds like a plan to contain China and Russia. This is why the west had being desperate to get along with India.
They fear the silk road project.

The silk road project is a white elephant that will only hasten the collapse of China which is now unavoidable.

CiC sort of already done it. This may also have something to do with so called dogfight outcome last week and commander-in-chief's mocking of India's Afghan contribution earlier.

US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to end preferential trade treatment for India, accusing New Delhi of failing to convince Washington it will provide “equitable and reasonable” access to its markets.
“I am providing notice of my intent to terminate the designation of India as a beneficiary developing country under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program,” Trump said in a letter to Congress on Monday.
.

Timing is bit peculiar. Anything to do with these recent reports about it not living upto US expectations on all these fronts?

Some frustration among US officials who were banking on using Indian military to keep China in check and somewhere military weapons contractors are probably also rejoicing creation of a new arms market

That said and granted their current leader appears to be bit of a loony character, following kind of public mocking by Trump of an elected foreign leader was undiplomatic/politically incorrect. Hopefully didn't play a role in some of their recent military contracts going to Russia.

Danke will agree that Indians aren't trustworthy but he probably has them confused with Injuns.
