Freshman Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) has emerged from relative obscurity to become a “conservative” rising star in the Trump era. The 34-year-old former Navy Seal who lost an eye serving his country fighting in Afghanistan, he rose as a national figure after appearing on NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ preaching unity after being trashed on the program the week prior.

“We can remember what brings us together as a country and still see the good in each other,” Crenshaw said at the time (http://time.com/5451494/pete-davidson-apologizes-dan-crenshaw-saturday-night-live/).
Now that he is a duly elected member of Congress, it is becoming clear what Crenshaw hopes to unify the country around: Endless War.
Crenshaw penned an op/ed (https://www.wsj.com/articles/troops-in-the-mideast-keep-terror-away-11551045173) on Sunday with neocon talk show host Mike Gallagher in the Wall Street Journal where he re-hashed many of the same tired tropes used by now deceased former Sen. John McCain to promote costly military interventions overseas.

“These troops are not victims. They are volunteer soldiers, part of America’s warrior class, who believe in what they are fighting for. They have seen the true nature of this enemy and know it cannot be wooed into submission by simply leaving it alone,” Crenshaw wrote.

Crenshaw would go on to essentially endorse a US military empire permanently occupying the Middle East ad infinitum under the Bush-era rationale that we have to fight the terrorists over there to stop them from coming over here.
“In truth, mission success in the Middle East means preventing another 9/11. America’s troops risk everything to take the fight to the enemy so that the enemy cannot bring the fight here,” Crenshaw wrote.
While giving some credit to President Trump’s measured foreign policy that has hit the “right balance,” Crenshaw urged a continued troop presence in Syria – where ISIS has been all but defeated – and Afghanistan, the graveyard for empires where the US has already been fighting a bloody war for 17 years.
“We strongly urge the president to maintain an appropriate military presence in both Syria and Afghanistan. The disastrous consequences of a premature and precipitous withdrawal haunted the previous administration, and America cannot afford to make the same mistake again,” Crenshaw said.
The facts don’t seem to back up Crenshaw’s pro-war narrative. Trump’s predecessor Barack Hussein Obama added a US troop presence in Syria (https://thehill.com/policy/defense/258657-obama-sending-troops-to-syria) and launched a disastrous intervention in Libya (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/apr/12/barack-obama-says-libya-was-worst-mistake-of-his-presidency). It was because of these foreign policy blunders that ISIS and other extremists gained so much ground. After Trump stopped Obama’s CIA program to arm Islamic radicals (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-ends-covert-cia-program-to-arm-anti-assad-rebels-in-syria-a-move-sought-by-moscow) shortly after becoming President, the situation in Syria stabilized and peace is now achievable.

President Trump was elected after talking about the Iraq War being a nightmare on the campaign trail and rejecting the belligerent orthodoxy that had failed the GOP and America for so long.

Sadly I was excited by this man's candidacy. Then he gets elected and immediately argues for perpetual war.

Art off the deal skills of GOP-Adelson leadership were acquired from real estate/casinos deals etc and MAGA may have to fold in the face of such tough obstacles.
Plus John Bolton and his top funder Adelson might stand in the way of other Iraq/Syria exits also. Perhaps put exits pledges on back burner for now and focus on putting America First/MX will pay for the W/Lock her up type low hanging fruit promises first.

We can remember what brings us together as a country

What is that, exactly?

I'd love to know...

The newest establishment darling of the Right, US Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), has rushed to John McCain’s defense after he was hammered by President Trump (https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/435264-trump-defends-attacks-on-mccain-he-gave-dossier-to-the-fbi-for-very) for colluding with the deep state and the Democratic Party to undo lawful results of the 2016 elections.
Crenshaw, who has already earned the moniker McCain 2.0 (https://bigleaguepolitics.com/mccain-2-0-dan-crenshaw-stands-in-the-way-of-trump-bringing-the-troops-home/), has been one of the most vocal critics of Trump’s non-interventionist foreign policy. Crenshaw clearly favors a more hawkish, belligerent foreign policy approach similar to that of the late Arizona maverick.

There is just no reason to be talking about Senator McCain after he has passed. He is not your poltical enemy Mr. President.

Crenshaw is recycling the old neocon era line that “we have to fight them over there so we don’t fight them over here” that made the George W. Bush administration such a laughingstock over a decade ago.

The situation in Syria does not warrant complete withdrawal. We can’t effectively maintain security or intelligence collection from Iraqi bases.
We go there so that they don’t come here, it’s that simple. Hold the line.https://t.co/bAbX8CtpEL

@RandPaul (https://twitter.com/RandPaul?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) is giving the President bad advice.
There are those of us who have sacrificed for our nation, who know the importance of this terrorist threat and the need to stay vigilant.
We go there so that they don’t come here. It’s that simple. https://t.co/L2rYvzSUYj

Crenshaw has issued several op-eds through the mainstream media to counter-signal the President and his foreign policy directives. Shortly after Trump announced he was removing troops from Syria, Crenshaw wrote (https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2018/12/21/dan-crenshaw-why-guys-like-me-go-places-like-syria/) a piece for the Washington Post that closely echoed the McCain “100 years” approach (https://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/14/mccain.king/) of endless war.
He actually brought up Osama bin Laden, who was built up with US military backing to fight the Soviets in an Afghan proxy war, as a reason to meddle in the Middle East. We need to create more Osamas to stop the Osamas of the world, Crenshaw seems to believe.
The Texas Representative claims falsely that Obama pulled the plug on Iraq when that never actually happened (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/five-years-barack-obama-withdraw-us-troops-from-iraq-stationed-northern-isis-mosul-a7478806.html), and it was this non-event – not the unconstitutional neocon-led invasions – that caused so much calamity in the Middle East. This talking point may be convenient for partisan Republicans wishing to whitewash GOP complicity in creating havens for Islamic terrorism abroad, but it does not match up with the reality of the situation.
Crenshaw also conveniently neglected to mention how regime change operations in Iraq and Libya created the power vacuum in the first place allowing groups like ISIS to rise.
It was only after President Trump cut off Obama’s policies (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-ends-covert-cia-program-to-arm-anti-assad-rebels-in-syria-a-move-sought-by-moscow/2017/07/19/b6821a62-6beb-11e7-96ab-5f38140b38cc_story.html) of supporting Islamic terror groups in Syria that ISIS could be crushed (https://www.foxnews.com/world/isis-has-officially-crumbled-and-last-stronghold-liberated-fox-news-has-learned). Stopping the meddling is what achieved the results, not intervention like Crenshaw claims. The same goes for North Korea where Trump is achieving the impossible through engagement and diplomacy.
