I was told that this would not be an unusual plea deal, but it would usually have the OK of the victim. Victims often don't want to press full charges, or are pressured/manipulated not to press charges.

If the victim doesn't like this deal, supposedly they could take it to the state AG office or the Feds and claim his due process was violated.

Eric Clanton story disappears back down Memory Hole

The story of Eric Clanton, the anti-free speech demonstrator / adjunct philosophy instructor who put on an Antifa mask and slammed seven pro-Trump individuals on the head with his bike lock in Berkeley last year (luckily, nobody died), would seem pretty interesting. Especially the part about how the “weaponized autism” of 4chan /pol/ participants crowdsourced the job law enforcement couldn’t or wouldn’t do — identifying the masked malefactor from subtle clues.

But, the tale contradicted The Narrative about how pro-Trump violence is sweeping the nation, so the New York Times never ever mentioned Clanton’s name.

Former college professor takes 3-year probation plea deal in assault case

Eric Clanton, a former Diablo Valley College professor, accepted a three-year probation deal in connection to an assault at a rally in Berkeley last year, as first reported by Berkeleyside.

According to Berkeleyside, Alameda County Superior Court records indicate that Clanton pleaded no contest on Wednesday to one misdemeanor charge, but his charges of four counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon were dismissed. One charge of great bodily injury was stricken, and one charge of wearing a mask to evade identification in the commission of the crime was dismissed.

Clanton’s probation began Wednesday and will last for three years, until Aug. 8, 2021.

The original incident occurred April 15, 2017, when Clanton allegedly attacked an individual with a bike lock during a rally in Berkeley. The attack was recorded and posted on YouTube.
