Take existing offices and give them their own office doing the exact same things and it will only cost you $2 billion more than leaving things as they were.

Team Trump plans to spend $2 billion over five years to create a Space Force, and about 15,000 current employees with space-related gigs will be transferred from their current jobs.

Officials unveiled the details and the Pentagon’s legislative proposal for the new military service Friday, Defense News reported.

Military leaders sent the formal proposal to Congress Feb. 27 after President Trump ordered the creation of the force, one of his favorite pet projects, in June.

Pentagon brass used bellicose language to tout the new force, which will fall under the Air Force and not be its own branch of the military, as the commander-in-chief had hoped.

“Space is not just a support function. It’s a war-fighting domain. We have to be prepared to fight, deter and win,” a senior defense official told the website Friday.

“This is a good path forward, which allows us to deliver capabilities, faster, better, and stay ahead of the adversaries,” another defense official said.

Trump has argued the force is necessary to counter China and Russia, who are also looking to militarize the cosmos.

In September, Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson floated a cost of $13 billion for the Space Force, while an independent estimate from the Center for Strategic and International Studies put the costs at around $550 million per year.
