President Donald J. Trump is set to address border security in El Paso, Texas on Monday evening, while the political left bolsters the claim that El Paso is one of the safest cities in America. Failed U.S. Senate Candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, a native of El Paso, will counter Trump’s rally with one of his own, likely defending the idea that open borders are not a threat to national security.
But according to a stellar 2017 documentary highlighting the investigative journalism of Chris Farrell of Judicial Watch, the watchdog group explains that the reason El Paso is so safe in terms of crime statistics is far more nefarious than meets the eye.
“The Sun City Cell” combines years of investigative research on the ground in borderland with interviews with informants and sources developed over time, as well as experienced law enforcement officials, all of whom have come to a terrifying conclusion: that El Paso is essentially owned by Mexican drug cartels, who in alliance with foreign jihadists have ensured the city’s quiet reputation in order to avoid suspicion about the dangers that lurk just south of the border, and sometimes pass through the city itself.
Many of the sources are embedded within groups of radical Islamic terrorists who have combined forces with Mexican drug cartels. Working together, radical Islamists and Mexican cartels have plotted terror attacks within the United States, including a 2009 terror attack, thwarted by authorities, that targeted Oprah Winfrey’s Chicago studios.
When asked if El Paso was a “narco-terror cell within the United States,” one of Judicial Watch’s confidential informants interviewed for the documentary answered affirmatively.
Former FBI Special Agent Jonathan Gilliam, interviewed in the documentary, agrees with the informant, and slammed O’Rourke for pushing the idea that further border security is unnecessary. This documentary was released well before the Beto craze of 2018, showing that as usual, Judicial Watch was ahead of the times.
“Mr. O’Rourke is an idiot,” Gilliam said. “And I’ll tell you why. Because he is speaking way out of the lines of his knowledge. Unless he himself has sat and put eyes on every inch of that border over the past 15 years, he has no way to know. And there are not eyes on every inch of that border.”
He was responding to O’Rourke’s claim that “there has never, ever been a terrorist, terrorist organization, or terrorist plot that has successfully entered this country through the Southern border,” which is played in the documentary.
