Travis County sheriff Sally Hernandez is sparking outrage in Texas over her new video in which she presides over the “whipping” of her officers, including a black man.
“Nothing like images of slavery and whips during Black History Month right after Virginia,” said a Texas state employee who provided the video to Big League Politics and said that he/she was “appalled” by the image.
Hernandez is a lightning rod of political controversy for campaigning against cooperating with ICE (https://theintercept.com/2017/10/09/ice-detainers-travis-county-texas-sheriff-sally-hernandez/), and crusading for Austin’s sanctuary city status, earning her the nickname “Sanctuary Sally” from Republicans.
