Colorado’s Senate has passed a bill that would cast its electoral college votes to the presidential winner of the popular vote.
The bill, introduced by state Sen. Mike Foote, would have Colorado join 11 other states (https://kdvr.com/2019/01/29/colorado-senate-passes-bill-to-essentially-eliminate-electoral-college/) and Washington D.C. in what’s called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which would mandate Colorado Electors to give up their vote to the winner of the national popular vote rather than the winner of their state.
“This really is a victory for those who believe that every vote should be counted equally,” Foote (D-Lafayette) said.

Republicans questioned the constitutionality of the legislation, arguing the bill abdicates the voice of Coloradans, which has nine electoral votes, to represent interests outside their state.
“You want to give your votes to a different state, or do you want your votes of Colorado to matter, as the voice of Colorado?” state Sen. Paul Lundeen asked on the floor.
“My argument is, and I may sound parochial in saying this, but daggummit, I’m here to represent the people of Colorado. I want their voice to be heard as the voice of Colorado.”

Yesterday, @COSenDem (https://twitter.com/COSenDem?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) took a step forward in eliminating the #ElectoralCollege (https://twitter.com/hashtag/ElectoralCollege?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) and adopting a popular vote system.
Today, they will vote to adopt Senate Bill 42.
Senator @Paul_Lundeen (https://twitter.com/Paul_Lundeen?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) made the case on the floor yesterday.

Currently, Compact members have 172 electoral votes between the 11 states (https://www.infowars.com/twelve-states-with-172-electoral-college-votes-are-moving-to-popular-vote-system/).
It takes 98 more electoral votes for the Compact to go into effect.

The Colorado Senate this week passed a bill that would award the state's electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the nationwide popular vote.

The Senate passed the measure along party lines in a 19-16 vote Tuesday, sending the bill to the state House for consideration.

The bill, known as the the national popular vote interstate compact, was sponsored by state Sen. Mike Foote (D), would require Colorado members of the Electoral College to cast their vote for the winner of the national popular vote.

The state’s nine electoral votes currently go toward the candidate who wins the majority of votes in Colorado.

The national popular vote interstate compact is an agreement among 11 states and the District of Columbia, but would only go into effect if there are enough electoral votes to influence the final Electoral College vote tally.

The states in the pact have 172 electoral votes — 98 short of the 270 needed to win the Electoral College.

“This really isn’t a red versus blue idea. This is about making sure that the president of the United States is elected by the entire nation, not just a handful of ‘battleground states’ that get to decide our presidential elections under the current system,” Foote said in a statement. “All of Colorado’s voters should be heard, regardless of whether or not we are considered a battleground state.”

Colorado Senate Republicans argued that it was unconstitutional to tie Colorado votes to national popular opinion.

“It says your votes and your choices are no longer your own,” GOP state Sen. Owen Hill said. "We are going to tie your representation to what the other 49 states choose."

Democrats in other states have criticized the Electoral College following the 2016 election, when President Trump lost the popular vote to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D) by almost 3 million votes.

Trump won 304 electoral votes compared to 227 for Clinton.

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) introduced a bill earlier this month to eliminate the Electoral College.

It would not get rid of the electoral college but only potentially change the way Colorado's representatives to the electoral college cast their votes. But that could be a different candidate than the one Colorado's voters preferred. (to change the Electoral College would require changing the US Constitution).

Yeah, it’s an excellent idea. Colorado should also voluntarily give up their Congressional seats. To better serve the popular will, they should divide them between California and New York. For example, instead of Senators representing Colorado, they can donate one to California and one to New York.

Title not quite accurate. They will not eliminate the electoral college, what they are doing is eliminating Colorado voters say in POTUS elections. Amazing how infiltration through migration works. Californians move to Colorado, and convince them to give up their votes to California.

On the other hand, this might speed up the possibility of a state somewhere seceding from the union.
