A new bill has been introduced to the Vermont legislator that would allow for legalized abortions up until 40 weeks.
“The bill, introduced Wednesday in the state House, would recognize abortion as a “fundamental human right” and ensure that the government does not deny, restrict or infringe upon a woman’s “right” to abort her unborn baby”, according to LifeNews (https://www.lifenews.com/2019/01/23/vermont-bill-would-make-legalized-abortion-up-to-birth-a-constitutional-right/).
This introduction follows suit after New York (https://bigleaguepolitics.com/world-trade-center-lights-up-in-pink-to-celebrate-late-term-abortion-legalization/) passed the legalization of late-term abortions on Tuesday, where the World Trade Center was lit pink to “celebrate” the new law.
The legislation in New York states that abortions may be performed past 24 weeks in situations where the pregnancy is determined to be unviable or the mother’s health is at risk. Also included in the new legislation is the right non-MDs to perform abortions, as Big League Politics reported,
“The Reproductive Health Act allows medical personnel other than doctors to perform abortion procedures, as long as they possess the necessary state licensing to do so. It also removes language proscribing certain abortion from the New York Criminal Code entirely, instead regulating the practice under public health code.”
The almost identical Vermont bill (https://legislature.vermont.gov/Documents/2020/Docs/BILLS/H-0057/H-0057%20As%20Introduced.pdf), that has 90 House co-sponsors, would allow for abortions to be performed up to 40 weeks with no restrictions and does not require a medical doctor to perform the abortion. Surprisingly, the “Republican” Governor, Phil Scott reportedly supports the abortion bill.
