Anthony Zinni, the former commander of the U.S. Central Command, has resigned from his position at the U.S State Department, the Marine Corps Time reported Jan. 8. Zinni had been responsible for attempting to resolve the Qatar crisis in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and building a strategic alliance with Arab allies to counter rising Iranian influence in the Middle East.
