Democrats refused to talk about alternatives. Apparently Schumer was raising his voice, Pelosi would not negotiate, and Trump walked out...

Everyday in the real economy, businesses have slow-downs, shut-downs, furloughs and layoffs.

This is common, and people deal with it one way or another. Perhaps it’s time for government workers to seek employment in the private sector, where there are so many job openings.

Art of the Deal: Know when to walk away from the table.

Trump should have done it from day one, when Ryan and McConnell brought him a bloated omnibus spending bill.

So Trump didn't offer any kind of counter proposal either. Neither side wants to be the one to blink. This could go on a long time (as of Friday it is the longest shutdown in the US). "I'll own the shutdown. I have no problems with that."

Eight Republicans in the House voted with Democrats to re-open some departments. (they need 55 for a veto proof majority though)

Pence and the GOP said that they had proposals that had been worked out with Democrats. There was an alternative proposal.

Now you can argue that Pelosi and Schumer said something different, but if the choice is to believe Pence or believe Schumer/Pelosi, the answer should be obvious. Only a fool would believe a word that comes out of Pelosi or Schumer’s mouths. There may have never been a less trustworthy pair of politicians in the history of the US.

Satire from The Borowitz Report

Trump Offers to Station Pence at Border with Binoculars in Lieu of Wall

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In an unexpected breakthrough that could end the government shutdown, President Donald Trump has backed down from his demand for a wall and offered instead to post Vice-President Mike Pence at the border with big binoculars.

According to the White House, Pence’s mission at the border will alternate between keeping an eye out for potential intruders and glaring menacingly into the distance.

At a press conference announcing the development, Pence appeared to embrace his new role as the nation’s first line of defense against illegal immigration.

“If anyone wants to sneak into the United States, why, lordy, they’ll have to get past Mike Pence first,” he said.

The White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, denied that stationing Pence at the border represented a concession on Trump’s part and claimed that the Vice-President was “just as good as a wall.”

“If anyone can take the place of an inanimate object, it’s Mike Pence,” she said.

Maybe Trump will now realize that politicians can't make America great again and only the people can do that.

I heard it said that the media should have been in the room. It is hard enough when the words come straight from a persons mouth to the peoples ears to decipher what was said. Everything said is misrepresented. Cameras during all meetings. Record everything!

The 'longer' the shut down, the more time we have against intrusive unconstitutional laws.

Mike Pence: ‘No wall, no deal’ to end partial government shutdown

WASHINGTON — Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday that “if there’s no wall, there’s no deal” to end the partial government shutdown that’s wrapping up its second week, just hours after newly elected Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said House Democrats would not give President Donald Trump funding for his border wall.

“Bottom line, if there’s no wall, there’s no deal,” Pence told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson.

While he expressed openness to negotiating an end to the shutdown, the wall was a clear sticking point: “We are here to make a deal, but it’s a deal that’s going to result in achieving real gains. … We will have no deal without a wall,” he said.

Sounds completely flexible. (Trump has already caved considerably- he was asking for $25 billion. Now that is $5 billion and reports of as little as $1.2 billion just so he can declare victory and claim a win).

Would it be okay to start a transport company with armed air conditioned vehicles to escort people into California for $$. Compete with the coyotes? Why have coyotes if people can just walk across. If so much of the border has no wall and is unprotected, why not just cross? There should not be any issue if you cross over on private property should there?

Its Chess.

He gave them a chance to do the "right thing". He now has a valid reason to declare a National Emergency and usurp the power to secure the border. I still smell a Dog and Pony show. See? We gave you this thing you all demanded! See? We listen! See? You need us to give us everything you want! A government big enough to give you everything you want, especially when those things come at the expense of everyone else, is big enough to take everything you have away and give it to someone else. Oh, and walls can easily keep you in also. Its Chess against you.

Yeah. The last time that happened, Pelosi and Schumer asked that the meeting be in private in front of the camera. Because of this I tend to believe Trump on this one.

Yes. Trump is not afraid to be in front of the camera. Imagine he mandates a camera for all meetings and invites media in. Democrats would go ballistic.
