NASA has canceled a scheduled visit by Dmitri Rogozin, the head of Russian federal space agency Roscosmos, to the U.S. space agency, The Moscow Times reported Jan. 7. The cancellation comes after U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen called on NASA to rescind the invitation to Rogozin, who is on the U.S. sanctions list.
Rogozin was placed on the U.S. sanctions list in 2014 for his role in Russia's annexation of Crimea and the conflict in eastern Ukraine. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, a former Republican congressman, invited Rogozin in October 2018 to visit the space agency under a temporary sanctions waiver.
