Well, I don't know about anywhere else, but in N.C. there is already a background check to buy guns online. It is required that the gun be shipped to an FFL owner and a background check made by them.

even uppers?

Actually I'll have to retract that. The semi-auto shotgun I bought online had to go through an FFL holder because the company required it. Not sure about the actual law. I have bought all my guns from individuals with the exception of the shotgun so I couldn't say.

For the record, I've had freedom loving gun vendors sent me 'illegal' uppers to NY. The big guys won't though.

Guns for me, not for thee. President Trump wants to take the guns first. What's next comprehensive DACA amnesty for illegal alien invaders, aka "Bill of Love"?

Get ready for a massive fight over gun control in Congress in 2019 (https://news.vice.com/en_us/article/kzvjyz/get-ready-for-a-massive-fight-over-gun-control-in-congress-in-2019)

Back in 2013 the bipartisan Manchin-Toomey limited background check bill died by filibuster, falling six votes short of even being allowed to be openly debated and amended. The legislation was sponsored by Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia — one of the most conservative Democrats in the chamber (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNte7Vr-IJg) — and Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, a Republican with the conservative enough credentials to stand up to the NRA without fear of a primary challenge.

That legislation would require background checks for online and gun show sales, but it still allows arms sales among family members with no background checks, and it explicitly bans the government from setting up a national gun registry.

Still, just getting a vote on it was a breakthrough for advocates. But since its defeat, it hasn’t been seriously revived. Today’s a new day, though.
“I am having conversations with people about it, and I think we should do it,” Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) told VICE News right after the election.

A synagogue massacre

For the past five years, the Republican senator tried to deflect attention from his own bill. But then the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh this past fall left 11 of his constituents dead, and that slaughter on his home turf, coupled with the new dynamics on Capitol Hill, has changed his tune.

With current prices on AR-15s being so low, there is no excuse for not being ahead of the curve...

Oh, well. They can try. It warms the cockles that gun owners have taken a very simple approach to gun laws lately. That being Will. Not. Comply.

The only approach with a hope in Hell of producing any lasting positive results. May their resolve only get stronger from here on out.
