The Senate passed a seven-week, stopgap funding bill on Wednesday, preventing a partial government shutdown that was expected to begin at midnight on Friday. Senators passed the legislation by voice vote, which represented the final item on the Senate's to-do list as they wrap up their work for the year this week; the bill will now go to the House, and be signed by President Trump.
Republican senators say that while they believe Trump is unhappy with Congress passing a short-term fix, they believe he will sign it because they were able to keep other controversial policy riders off of it.

More importantly, the stop-gap bill, puts off the fight over Trump's fight with Pelosi, Schumer and the Democrats over the president's demand for $5 billion for the border wall.
"I think the message is don't add anything else to it," said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the No. 2 Senate Republican. "He's not happy about that [a continuing resolution] but he understands the reality."
The bill, which will fund roughly 25% of the government, pushed back the funding deadline from Dec. 21 to Feb. 8, and avoids dragging a partial shutdown fight into the Christmas holiday. A vote on the bill was temporarily held up Wednesday over a fight on whether or not to include a land and water measure, which has been stalled amid negotiations for months.

Meanwhile, conservative lawmakers and pundits are blasting GOP leaders and Trump over the stopgap spending measure. Rep. Jim Jordan questioned rhetorically in a tweet: “Let me get this straight... our chances of getting the Wall will be better in February when Nancy Pelosi is Speaker than now when we have the majority?” But the White House appeared increasingly resolved to a continuing resolution as the week stretched on, the deadline looming and no long-term deal in sight.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday that “at the end of the day, we don’t want to shut down the government.”
Unwilling to accept defeat, Trump remained defiant saying in a tweet Wednesday that “one way or the other, we will win on the Wall!"
"In our Country, so much money has been poured down the drain, for so many years, but when it comes to Border Security and the Military, the Democrats fight to the death," he tweeted on Wednesday. "We won on the Military, which is being completely rebuilt. One way or the other, we will win on the Wall!"

How bad will be bleeding of MAGA's conservative support from this lack of deal making success?

Some hardcore conservatives are starting to turn on MAGA and suggesting he may have been "joke presidency" "scamming people" all along and won't finish his term (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?529453-Coulter-Trump-Will-Not-Finish-Current-Term-quot-joke-presidency-who-scammed-the-American-people-quot&p=6722575&viewfull=1#post6722575) due to this outcome.

That depends on this:

“one way or the other, we will win on the Wall!"

It also depends on other things like this happening:

The Freedom Caucus took the House floor Wednesday night to demand $5 billion in congressional funding for President Donald Trump’s border wall.
“The time to fight is now” declared Jim Jordan of Ohio, who joined with North Carolina’s Mark Meadows in the late-night effort.
The Freedom Caucus sent a clear signal to the commander in chief President Donald Trump: if you veto the “stopgap” bill that kicks the can down the road a few pointless months, then we will have a Christmas season government shutdown. And isn’t time we start saying Merry Christmas again in this Country?
“Mr. President, we’re going to back you up if you veto this — back you up. If you veto this bill, we’ll be there, more importantly, the American people will be there. They’ll be there to support you. Let’s build the wall and make sure we do our job in Congress,” said (https://thehill.com/homenews/house/422209-freedom-caucus-says-it-will-support-veto-of-cr) Freedom Caucus heavyweight Meadows.

“The president, many, many months ago said he would not sign another funding bill unless we gave him wall funding. What did this House do? It passed the bill to fund the Department of Defense and passed a short-term C.R. And said we are going to have that fight after the mid-terms,” said Meadows, who called out loser outgoing speaker Paul Ryan directly.

Here’s what Jim Jordan had to say: “Everyone knows the old line. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. But we’re going to have to change that line — we’re to need a new one. The new line should be Fool the American people four times, shame on Congress.”

Does anyone doubt that they'll eventually reach some "grand compromise" per which all constituencies are bought off spending increases?

The Demoncrats will never agree to any wall or increased border security funding, the communist invasion is their number one priority.

If the wall or increased border security gets funded it will be over their dead bodies (politically speaking) or through alternative measures. (like using the military budget)

Trump just recently approved of an increase to the military budget beyond what he had said was necessary.....................

President Donald Trump has agreed to a request from Defense Secretary James Mattis to propose a defense budget of $750 billion for the coming year, marking a reversal from plans to shrink defense spending, an administration official confirmed to CNN.

Last week, Trump appeared to call the Defense Department budget of $716 billion "crazy" in a tweet. The next day Mattis and key Republican lawmakers who oppose any defense budget cuts met with the President for lunch to discuss military funding.

The agreement on the $750 billion budget came out of the meeting last Tuesday, which was attended by Trump, Mattis and the chairmen of the House and Senate Armed Services committees, Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, and Sen. James Inhofe, R-Oklahoma.

"The President fully supports the National Defense Strategy and continuing to rebuild the military," the official said. "With the help of Sen. Inhofe and Chairman Thornberry, President Trump agreed to $750 billion topline."

Politico first reported the decision to increase the budget proposal.

The larger number tracks with what some experts, including a congressionally appointed panel, have said should be a yearly 3 to 5% increase to the defense budget, which includes money for the military as well as the nuclear weapons elements of the Department of Energy.

The meeting last week came as the Trump administration floated a 5% cut to the Defense Department, reducing the defense budget from $716 billion allocated in 2019 to $700 billion in 2020 as part of a federal government-wide effort to reduce the deficit. Defense officials were planning on a $733 billion budget for 2020 prior to the proposed cuts.

"The Department is committed to ensuring our military remains the most lethal force in the world. We are working with OMB (Office of Management and Budget) to determine the department's topline number," Lt. Col. Mike Andrews, a Defense Department spokesman, told CNN.

Defense officials had said anything under $733 billion would increase risk.

EM.

This may please Ann Coulters of GOP base but it could be dangerous for MAGA's political future.. especially if such a veto is not blessed by his top funders. A shut gov can impact various domestic as well as globalist spending projects/foreign aids/ foreign freedom projects etc.

Texas conservative Rep. Louie Gohmert brought the thunder Wednesday night as the Freedom Caucus seized the House floor to demand $5 billion in congressional spending for President Donald Trump’s border wall.
“Now we need Americans to help remind our Republican leaders to help our president build the wall — like we said. If that doesn’t happen, I don’t think the Senate can count on being back in the majority. They won’t be – it’s that serious,” said Gohmert in his House floor remarks.

It's all so ridiculous because Republicans control both chambers and the WH yet still bend to whatever Chuck and Nancy want. That should show everyone with a few working brain cells that haven't been fully fluoridated yet that shit ain't what it appears to be.

There will be no wall because the Vatican does not want a wall (https://cruxnow.com/vatican/2018/12/13/when-it-comes-to-migration-vaticans-as-progressive-as-they-come/). Mitch may be Majority Leader but Schumer runs the Senate because Chuck is the banker's point-man. Trump is a Vatican adherent, as are Chuck and Nancy.

I know it's been said many times in the past, but I truly believe this. If Trump signs this, MAGA is done.

First, he made a promise when he signed the Omnibus. Then he made a threat - no funding for border wall = government shutdown. "I will own it.". His bluff has been called and it appears he will not follow through. His weakness is on full display.

If a stand is not made now, what chance does MAGA have over the next 2 years?

Grumblings on the Hill that it Trump may veto it. Assuming it's not part of the script, I couldn't blame him. He's catching major flak from his base judging by threads and comments on Trump sites. People commenting about throwing in the towel on his presidency.
