Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) has yet to take the speaker's gavel of the U.S. House of Representatives, but Democrats are already laboring to make it easier to dismantle the achievements of the Trump presidency.
The incoming chairman of the House Rules Committee, Rep. Jim McGovern (D., Mass.), confirmed to colleagues on Wednesday that he would not honor the three-fifths supermajority requirement to raise income taxes, as reported (https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2018/12/11/house-democrats-scrap-proposed-tax-rule-after-criticism-progressive-caucus/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.7127f640398f) by the Washington Post.
McGovern's decision overturns a rule implemented under outgoing Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) that mandated a three-fifths majority approve any proposed hike to the income tax.
The change comes after a standoff between Pelosi and her moderate allies in the Democratic conference, such as incoming Ways and Means Committee chairman Richard Neal (Mass.), and younger, more progressive members like Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.).
In November Pelosi and Neal initially proposed (http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/11/pelosi-mulls-super-majority-rule-for-tax-hikes-on-bottom-80.html) keeping the three-fifths supermajority rule for income tax increases "on the lowest-earning 80 percent of taxpayers." That notion, however, met stern opposition (https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/democrats-face-early-division-over-tax-hikes-rules/2018/11/16/9500b97a-e9d5-11e8-bbdb-72fdbf9d4fed_story.html?utm_term=.d14903df941d) from Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives because it would severely constrain the ability of House Democrats to find new revenue sources to fund measures like universal health care and free college tuition.

Pelosi loves this country.

Next team Pelosi-MAGA probably would be joining forces to increase big gummit spending and raise debt ceiling to the sky. Go big or go home.

Senate Republicans have been changing rules to be able to pass things with a simple majority (like appointments) to block Democrats. Now when Democrats suggest doing the same thing they are getting upset?

They can change the rules because they are the majority, the problem is that they want to change them in order to increase taxes.

The Senate (which is controlled by Republicans) would have to agree before any taxes could be increased.

There are too many RINOs in the Senate to take much comfort from that.

When you change rules to make it easier for yourself and harder for the opposition to object you run the risk of others using the same rules against you when you are no longer the ones in power.

The Dems started that game but that isn't and never was the point, the point is that the Demoncrats want to raise taxes.

You are talking about the Democrats using the “nuclear option” first? Right?
