WikiLeaks is suing The Guardian for publishing claims that former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort was in communication with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
The Guardian published (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/nov/27/manafort-held-secret-talks-with-assange-in-ecuadorian-embassy) a story Tuesday with an unnamed source claiming Manafort had met with Assange in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
“Remember this day when the Guardian permitted a serial fabricator to totally destroy the paper’s reputation. @WikiLeaks is willing to bet the Guardian a million dollars and its editor’s head that Manafort never met Assange,” WikiLeaks tweeted in response to the story.

Additionally, WikiLeaks noted that The Guardian edited its headline shortly after the article became the main story on The Drudge Report.
“Ninety minutes after publication the Guardian modifies its “Manafort held secret talks with Assange” headline to add, “sources say.”

The corruption watchdog speculated if The Guardian’s editor would resign after making multiple edits on the story throughout the day.
“Guardian quietly edits itself away from completely fabricated blockbuster “Manafort visited Assange at embassy” story. Expect more changes. Will editor KathViner resign?”

Manafort also denied the story, calling it “totally false.”
“This story is totally false and deliberately libelous. I have never met Julian Assange or anyone connected to him,” Manafort said (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia-manafort/ex-trump-campaign-head-manafort-denies-ever-meeting-with-wikileaks-assange-idUSKCN1NW2C2) through a representative.
“We are considering all legal options against the Guardian, who proceeded with this story even after being notified by my representatives that it was false.”
WikiLeaks announced it would file a lawsuit against The Guardian for libel and launched a GoFundMe (https://www.gofundme.com/wikileaks-suing-the-guardian-over-manafort-story) account asking for grassroots support.

WikiLeaks announced on Monday that it will commence its lawsuit against The Guardian over an "entirely fabricated" story that former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort held secret meetings with Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy - a report which has been largely discredited.

After raising $50,000 from 1,270 donors in a Gofundme campaign (https://www.gofundme.com/wikileaks-suing-the-guardian-over-manafort-story), WikiLeaks tweeted "Legal action will now commence," adding "but more is required to complete."

— WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) November 27, 2018 (https://twitter.com/wikileaks/status/1067498968584736771?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) The campaign story (https://www.gofundme.com/wikileaks-suing-the-guardian-over-manafort-story) reads:

The Guardian has claimed, (https://couragefound.org/2018/11/the-guardian-publishes-fabricated-claims-of-paul-manafort-visiting-assange/) using unnamed sources, that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort had "secret talks" with Julian Assange (https://couragefound.org/2018/06/liveblog-julian-assange-in-jeopardy) in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London on three occasions. These claims are completely false and the story has been fabricated. But it has gone viral, repeated uncritically by media outlets around the world.
In response to the article, Manafort issued a statement unequivocally denying the alleged visits.
"This story is totally false and deliberately libelous. I have never met Julian Assange or anyone connected to him. I have never been contacted by anyone connected to Wikileaks, either directly or indirectly," reads Manafort's statement. "I have never reached out to Assange or Wikileaks on any matter. We are considering all legal options against the Guardian who proceeded with this story even after being notified by my representatives that it was false."
What's more, the Ecuadorian embassy's visitor logs show no such visits.
