Press Release: Ron Paul Campaign First

Ron Paul Campaign First to Provide iPhone Platform

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 2, 2007

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – The Ron Paul 2008 presidential campaign today became the first campaign to launch an iPhone platform. This new platform will allow iPhone users to access the campaign’s Web 2.0 applications, such as social networking tools and online videos, directly from their iPhones.

"The iPhone is an exciting technology that will help us reach potential voters across the country," states eCampaign director Justine Lam. "The Ron Paul campaign continues to utilize new technologies to spread Dr. Paul’s message of freedom, peace and prosperity."

Terra Eclipse of Santa Cruz, California designed this special platform for the Ron Paul campaign. "Our web development team has built a robust tool that will allow iPhone-equipped volunteers to bring Ron Paul’s online popularity into offline households in key early primary states," says Wyatt Hull, creative director of Terra Eclipse.

The Ron Paul 2008 iPhone platform is available at www.ronpaul2008.com/iphone .

Ron paul is amazingly tech efficient considering his age. Most people i know over 55 barley even know how to turn on their computer.

Hopefully it's a characteristic that will continue during his presidency:)

If Ron were on top of things, he would utilize YouTube more efficiently by posting succinct videos of his stances and by offering to debate other presidential candidates one-on-one and post the debates to YouTube.

It's nice that he's trying to be tech-savvy and all, but there are more valuable routes to his ends through technology than putting up an iPhone page.

Hopefully, he will at least get a little press for being the first one.

Ron Paul's campaign staff deserves a lot of credit for this. It's further evidence of their ingenuity and ability to read the pulse of their voters.

Considering they are spending $600 to buy the thing and signing up for ≥$60 monthly service, I would say people with lots and lots and lots of disposable income. Now he just needs to come up with a way to reach BMW drivers and country club members and he'll rocket past Giuliani's fundraising numbers!

Even though I'm sure Dr. Paul resents the influence money has in politics, he knows where the money's at.

It's a win, win...

The decision to open up the campaign to a new tech platform says a lot of positive things about the man it represents.

-thinking outside the box

-leadership away from the pack

-relating to the people, especially the demographic that is excited about the iPod release

-quick thinking, responsiveness and flexibility

-a reflection of the campaign's philosophical underpinnings: transparency, accessibility, access to the people

These things come to my mind, Paul must have a great campaign staff.

I do agree that there needs to be something fresh on his website every day. Not just a text press release. It could just be a 2 minute clip answering a question. I know he's busy, but record a few dozen of these one afternoon and then dole them out piecemeal.

So you're speaking with a nice girl at the coffee shop and you mention Ron Paul and how he's the first honest politician to run for president in the last too-many years and she does seem interested so you say "do you want to use my iPhone to watch a quick youtube? She says yes :) and you whip out the hottest gadget in history and ...

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/130/ipaul12dy5.png

... you play the best short video from the growing archive ( turning to widescreen of course ) and then you ask if she would sign up for more info - it only takes thirty seconds ...

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/1761/ipaul9zv8.png

She gets to play with the touchscreen and try out typing on the new "virtual qwerty"

And she's into it and not only that... other people at the friendly local independent coffee shop seem to be looking over your shoulder... and they have questions...

I hate to break it to you, but it's not Paul himself that is so tech savvy.

No one's more surprised at this robust Web presence than Paul himself, a self-described "old-school," "pen-and-paper guy" who's serving his 10th congressional term and was the Libertarian Party's nominee for president in 1988.

"To tell you the truth, I hadn't heard about this YouTube and all the other Internet sites until supporters started gathering in them," confessed Paul, 71, who said that he's raised about $100,000 after each of the three debates.
