Genius, Pure Genius: Copy and Paste http://wwwcomcast.net/ into your browser and it pulls up www.ronpaul2008.com !!!

http://wwwcomcast.net/
http://wwwcomcast.com/

How is this possible?

Ron Paul is everywhere...

I luv that we have secret underground haxors for Ron Paul

The site has actually been up for a few years, maybe the guy just changes it to whatever his interests are at the time. If you're really worried, just send the guy an e-mail it's cj@cannatella.com
but I think this is a legit RP supporter redirecting traffic to his site.

Pimpin Turtle Dot Com
12-13-2007, 02:29 AM
I think it is pretty f-ing sweet... Think about it... even if it only accidently redirects like 100 or so 50 year old non-internet savvy people, that could virally spread to thousands of other people... I like to think optimistically... :)

micahnelson

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is not a good thing. The uninformed will think Ron Paul has stolen their internets.

And, very likely this is a CC Scam. I could be wrong. Can anyone verify this?

RonPaulVolunteer
12-13-2007, 02:32 AM
No this is not safe. It does not establish a secure connection. It is in a frame set. At any time they could write a script to grab the data inputed into the page. I am sure the guy means well, but it's wrong and possibly fraud.

If it did a simple redirection, it wouldn't be too bad. However it just loads the ronpaul site in a frame which leaves the site vulnerable to scripts harvesting creditcards.

Fat fingering has been a long time tool of web nerds. It's a legit redirect (in a frame as indicated above) to the official site (look at the source code) and a very good example of taking advantage of typos that has been around for a long time.

Can someone hack the FOX news web site top page and just put the image of the Ron Paul Blimp in the header image, maybe with some Title text that says, "FOX News, You Have Been Blimped!" Then do it to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc..

Now that would be funny. Not that I'm advocating it, for real or anything.

Anyone who uses GoDaddy.com should forward their unused domain names to RonPaul2008.com

I have about 20 unused domains and it might only result in a few visitors per month but the redirects are free with GoDaddy.com and it beats the visitor going to a parking page.

Does "use for any purpose" include redirects? Anyway even if it does, before the cease and desist arrives, tens of thousands may be redirected to the right place!

Guys, this is not a good idea. One of the big bragging points about the campaign is that RP's website receives more traffic than the other "top tier" candidates. Start massively redirecting unrelated traffic to the website and you immediately distort these figures and give people an excuse to dismiss the high traffic numbers as "a trick done by internet spammers."

Also, as someone with experience in domain name issues I can assure you that most of these companies will send cease and desist orders demanding that you stop the redirects and turn the domains over to them.

While this is a well-intentioned idea, it's going to generate a ton of bad publicity for not a lot of gain.

I totally agree. It's a well intentioned idea, but will have very negative side-effects (distorting genuine hit count, bad publicity, etc).

That said, I think I will buy a few and have them redirect to my site:

EverythingRonPaul.com (http://EverythingRonPaul.com)

It's a great introduction to Ron Paul, and I literally link to the official campaign site in every place I can find an excuse to. My home page has some good eye-grabbing bold text and a great introductory level Ron Paul video.
