Police in South Daytona Florida are investigating after someone fired four bullets through the windows of the Volusia County Republican Headquarters, according to local ABC affiliate WFTV9 (https://www.wftv.com/news/local/four-shots-fired-into-volusia-county-republican-headquarters-police-say/862377048). Nobody was injured in the incident.

Shattered glass and fallen campaign posters littered the sidewalk outside Republican party headquarters. Inside, volunteers pointed to bullet holes in the walls and ceiling.
“We have never had any kind of vandalism before at a Republican Headquarters,” Tony Ledbetter, the chairman of Volusia County’s Republican Party, said in an email Monday morning. “It’s a small strip center and no other business was vandalized, so it was obviously politically motivated.” -Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://www.news-journalonline.com/news/20181029/republican-party-headquarters-vandalized-by-gunfire-in-volusia)


Ledbetter tells the News-Journal that he was the last person to leave the GOP headquarters on Sunday at 4 p.m., while employees at nearby businesses - including an e-cigarette store, a restaurant and a massage parlor had closed by 10 p.m. Nobody heard the shots fired.

SOUTH DAYTONA — At least four bullets were fired from a gun into the windows of Volusia County’s Republican Party headquarters Sunday night or early Monday morning, and the party’s chairman blamed Democrats for the vandalism.

“I’m looking at the busted window that some nice Democrat did,” said Republican Party Chairman Tony Ledbetter on Monday. “Republicans don’t have any beef about what we are doing, it’s the Democrats.”

Ledbetter was slightly distracted from an interview when he spotted a hole in the glass.

“Is that a bullet hole?” Ledbetter asked volunteers, who found the broken windows and bullets around 9 a.m. Monday. “They actually used a gun, too.”

South Daytona Police Capt. Mark Cheatham said Monday his agency is investigating the shooting that left shattered glass and fallen campaign posters that littered the sidewalk outside 2841 S. Nova Road — the Nova Fountain — strip mall near Reed Canal Park. Police did not have any witnesses or suspects.
