The Grand Old Party (GOP) is doing all it can to ignore the presence of Ron Paul in the race for the Republican presidential nomination; however from looking at financial coffers and wagering odds (Sportsbook.com), Paul is very much in the hunt for the nomination.

As of Wednesday, Dec. 12, Paul has a (5/1) chance of securing the nomination and in the eyes of oddsmakers only trails Mike Huckabee (7/2), Rudy Giuliani (3/2) and Mitt Romney (2/1). At 5/1 odds, Paul is hardly considered a long shot.

The main media focus is on the battle in Iowa between former governors Huckabee of Arkansas and Romney of Massachusetts. Huckabee, has a slight lead over Romney according to pollsters, but still lags Romney and the perceived leader Rudy Giuliani in betting odds.

Paul’s name is seldom mentioned among the leaders by the mainstream media but his money raising skills can not be overlooked and any candidate who has money to spend is capable of stirring things up in any political race. Paul once raised $4-million in one day and on Dec. 16, 2007 Paul will attempt to raise $10-million via the internet. If Paul raises half of that amount, he will be able to stir up plenty of attention in New Hampshire. While he might not win the primary, he could easily determine who does win.

Online wagering leader Sportsbook.com is offering an OVER/UNDER wagering opportunity for political wagering enthusiasts on Paul’s attempt to raise $10-million on Dec. 17.

OVER $6-million raised ….2/5 odds ($500 wagered to win $200).

UNDER $6-million raised...9/5 odds ($500 wagered to win $900).

GOP Presidential Nomination Odds.

Rudy Giuliani 3/2

Mitt Romney 2/1

Mike Huckabee 7/2

Ron Paul 5/1

Fred Thompson 15/1

John McCain 15/1

Duncan Hunter 100-1

Tom Tancredo 100/1

Romney's odds are too high.

I know 90% of people in the south would never ever vote for a Mormon. Romney has NEVER gotten over 15% nationwide!
