President Donald Trump suggested Monday, one year after the Las Vegas massacre, that bump-fire stocks would be banned "over the next couple of weeks."

Trump was asked at a Rose Garden news conference about the progress of regulations to eliminate the devices, which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at a more rapid rate.

"In order to eliminate -- terminate -- bump stocks, we have to go through procedure. We are now at the final stages of that procedure," he said.

"We are knocking out bump stocks. I have told the (National Rifle Association) -- bump stocks are gone. But to do that, you have to go to public hearings, which we have had. You have to go through all sorts of regulatory control systems."
Trump added that the process should be wrapped up in "two or three weeks."

On September 27, the Justice Department formally submitted its proposed final rule, "Bump-Stock-Type Devices" to the Office of Management and Budget at the White House, according to a DOJ official.

This submission initiated OMB's 90-day review period of the rule, so the process is still underway.

In March, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Justice Department would clarify rules that define bump stocks within the definition of "machine gun" under federal law, a move that would ban the sale of such accessories.

The public comment period for the change in the bump stock rule ended on June 27.

Trump also said Monday that his administration is working with Congress "on both sides" on "a lot of different things" regarding gun legislation.

I was in the Marine Corps stationed in Southern California and spent most of my time surfing at the beach during the first Gulf War. Using Hogg's definition, I should tell everyone that I am a hard corps combat veteran.

Only so far but this is a slam dunk, BATFE already declared that they don't have the power to ban bump stocks under current law.

It will never survive the court challenge.

If it was a leftist cause to stop this, every court all the way to the top would immediately halt implementation of this law.

Since it is the other way around, every court will go along with it all the way to the Supreme Court.

It's a good thing we have Kavanaugh instead of Kennedy.

Well thank you Nostradamus for that edifying glimpse into what is sure to be a bright future.

But even if your attempt at prognostication proves correct, and past experience tends to indicate that the reverse is more likely, it does precisely NOTHING to exonerate Trump for his actions on this matter.

Trump used the bully pulpit of the presidency to promote a ban on not only bump stocks, but a whole category of firearms accessories, as well as to promote other gun laws.

Trump directed hi AG to do whatever was necessary to get it done, through executive fiat no less.

Now we're told that we're weeks from it coming to pass, and Trump is working with Congress on " 'a lot of different things' regarding gun legislation." That's usually Washington speak for BOHICA.

And yet, as usual, not a whisper of the well-deserved scathing criticism Trump deserves over this from you or any of the other Trump supporters around here. Go figure.

The larger question, of course, is, "what does this mean for the wager between AF and dannno?" AF had the timing off - just didn't understand the glacial procedure of the Federal Gubmint. But don't worry, our dear leader is still on it.

Well I do hope they hurry up. Many lives are in danger, a bump stock could attack at any time.

Hopefully in this bill they remembered to ban rubber bands.

I was one of those who screamed loudest about Trump's actions at the time and I didn't say one good word about him here.
