Jeff Flake was allowed to speak before the committee voted and said he would vote for advancing the nomination under the condition that the floor vote be delayed for at least one week while the FBI is allowed to investigate the allegations raised against Kavanaugh. The vote was strictly along party lines and passed by just one vote- Flake's.

The FBI already stated there is nothing for them to investigate, the sex crimes expert prosecutor stated there isn't enough there to support an investigation. What exactly do they expect to happen? If they get what they want and the FBI comes back and says the allegations are unfounded just as what happened with Anita Hill, they will move the goal posts again and say the FBI report is worthless.

American Bar Association calls for FBI investigation into Kavanaugh allegations, delay in confirmation votes

The American Bar Association called on the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday evening to halt the confirmation vote for Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court, saying it should not move forward until an FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations against him can be completed.

“The basic principles that underscore the Senate’s constitutional duty of advice and consent on federal judicial nominees require nothing less than a careful examination of the accusations and facts by the FBI,” ABA President Robert Carlson wrote in a letter to Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and ranking committee Democrat Dianne Feinstein of California.

The letter, which is unlikely to sway Republicans, said that an appointment to the Supreme court “is simply too important to rush to a vote.” “Deciding to proceed without conducting an additional investigation would not only have a lasting impact on the Senate’s reputation, but it will also negatively affect the great trust necessary for the American people to have in the Supreme Court,” Carlson wrote in the letter, obtained by The Washington Post.

The ABA, with 400,000 members, is the legal profession’s largest organization. Kavanaugh and his supporters have bragged about its favorable rating of the nominee, with Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., describing the imprimatur as the “gold standard.”

Also calling for an FBI probe was Harvard Law School scholar Alan Dershowitz, often lauded by President Donald Trump’s for his criticisms of the the probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. “Maybe we can get closer to the truth, although that is not certain,” Dershowitz wrote in a Fox News opinion piece. “But right now there are too many unanswered question[s] to bring the confirmation of Kavanaugh” to “a vote of the Judiciary Committee as scheduled on Friday, much less to a vote of the full Senate.” It is “possible that one of them is deliberately lying. Right now, there is no way of knowing for certain, which is why the FBI needs to talk to the judge’s accusers and others.”

During Thursday’s tumultuous hearing, in which Christine Blasey Ford testified that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in 1982, Kavanaugh referenced his good standing with the ABA multiple times as he angrily denied Ford’s allegations.

What is there for them to investigate?

There is no time or location to investigate, Ford doesn't remember where or when the party was (even what YEAR..)

All of the witnesses who were allegedly at the party say they don't remember it ever occurring.

Kavanaugh has had several extensive FBI background checks.

Everything has been investigated.

This is just a delay tactic to get a Democrat on the Supreme Court, which I'm sure you would be thrilled with. So you pretend an FBI investigation is important. You don't give a shit about Dr. Ford, you only care about Democrats.

This country is a disgrace. It’s such a sad state of lies and politically hungry power moves that do nothing good for society as a whole.

Easy answer.
They investigate the life and complete background of all the supposed witnesses or rather non-witnesses. They find some dirt or crime on some of them (who hasn't committed at least one felony?) then flip them into testifying that Kavanaugh lied under oath in exchange for not being prosecuted.

easy, peasy

In a statement, a Justice Department spokeswoman said the FBI — which has added a letter from Christine Blasey Ford to Kavanaugh's already completed background report file — had already done all it was going to do, because "the allegation does not involve any potential federal crime."

"The FBI does not make any judgment about the credibility or significance of any allegation," the statement reads. "The purpose of a background investigation is to determine whether the nominee could pose a risk to the national security of the United States. The allegation does not involve any potential federal crime. The FBI's role in such matters is to provide information for the use of the decision makers."

Grassley was more definitive in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt Tuesday morning.

"The FBI investigation of Judge Kavanaugh is closed," he said. "The FBI is not doing any further investigation."

Glad they gave Merrick Garland a fair hearing and vote. (There would only be a Democratic nominee to the Supreme Court if there was a Democratic President to make the nomination) instead of delaying until a Republican could pick somebody.

So Republicans put on a side show circus and ruined somebody's family and their life to derail it?

Totally different, the voters gave the Republicans a Senate majority to do things like blocking a radical leftist from replacing the court's most conservative justice.

J. Edgar Hoover's FBI would widen an inquiry by the fives,
first it's five people, then it's 50 who get questioned,
then it's 500, and if need be, 5000 if one desires. Often
the older FBI trained people seek out connections. If
you do things this old school way, files expand exponentially.
