The White House has again lowered the American flag to half-staff after earlier backlash as the nation continues to mourn the passing of Senator John McCain.

Many people were stunned by the flag only being lowered for a short time following the death of such a prominent American political figure. The decision earlier came between reporting yesterday that President Donald Trump nixed a White House statement on McCain and the President’s ignoring of reporters’ shouted questions today about McCain.

Now the flag is at half-staff again:

I am unaware of any dead senator flag etiquette . Is this something state capitals do in other states for the departed ?

The flag shall be flown at half-staff 30 days from the death of the President or a former President; 10 days from the day of death of the Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice of the United States, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives; from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession; and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress.

As a politician he has to manage his public image to deal with moderates, if the MSM was going to make a federal case out of it he had to respond because the law does say it should have been at half mast but he still sent the message.
