A federal grand jury has indicted Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., and his wife for allegedly misusing campaign funds and filing false campaign records with the Federal Election Commission.

In a 48-page indictment, federal prosecutors assert that between 2009 and 2016 the couple used more than $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses like a family vacation to Italy, golf outings and expensive meals — things they could afford to pay for using personal funds.

"The indictment alleges that Congressman Hunter and his wife repeatedly dipped into campaign coffers as if they were personal bank accounts, and falsified FEC campaign finance reports to cover their tracks," said U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman.

Prosecutors said the couple had received "numerous warnings" about their behavior.

A spokesperson for the congressman told NBC News that Hunter "believes this action is purely politically motivated."

Hunter was one of the first congressmen to endorse Donald Trump in the 2016 election. For the fall midterm election, Real Clear Politics ranks California's 50th congressional district as leaning slightly in Hunter's favor. He had previously won re-election multiple times with about two-thirds of the vote.

The two are set to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. PT on Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States, wire fraud, falsification of records and prohibited use of campaign contributions.

Hunter and Collins were the first 2 people in congress to support Trump. Collins got hit with insider trading, Hunter with this.
I'm sure the Trumpers will say it's retribution, The anti-trumpers will say it shows the type of people to support Trump.

Either way it shows how voters really need to figure out how to elect better people.

Speaker Paul Ryan (http://thehill.com/people/paul-ryan) (R-Wis.) said Tuesday that Rep. Duncan Hunter (http://thehill.com/people/duncan-hunter) (R-Calif.) will be removed from House committees after he was charged with misusing at least $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses.
"The charges against Rep. Hunter are deeply serious. The Ethics Committee deferred its investigation at the request of the Justice Department," Ryan said in a statement.
"Now that he has been indicted, Rep. Hunter will be removed from his committee assignments pending the resolution of this matter," he added.

He was in a competition with McCain in 2008 to smack down Ron Paul, and then they both lost. :D

Edit: That's probably his father in the video. There's little difference between the two.

The five-term congressman holds a seat his father, Rep. Duncan Hunter Sr., once held.

If members of the GOP are not 90% to 95% honest this political season,
if the challenger is a young, fresh faced "newbie" Democrat who sounds
sincere, expect House seats to flip. I tend to think most Neo-Cons are on
the take & many voters assume that the opposition party might be a tad
slower at graft if they have wandered in the political wilderness for a spell.

Ole Andy Jackson once liked the cut of French Revolutionary trousers so he sought
to displace the power elite of our early Republic with his OWN people in a reform
attempt. His people INVENTED one of the longest lasting political hack machines.
Admittedly today's Democrats are not Jacksonians, nor do they wear revolutionary
knee breeches. By invoking Ole Andy Jackson, DJT actually gives out a hint of his Id.

Clearances as in what the great Whig Houses did in the early 1700s
to all their tenant farmers when they wanted more sheep on their
estates or do you refer to SECURITY clearances? As in top secret etc?

Right now, this feels like a ghosttown where the past tense is

Are these indictments a new procedure? In the past were people of power indicted for this type of behavior or did they just leave their position?

Rep. Duncan Hunter (http://thehill.com/people/duncan-hunter) (R-Calif.) is defying Speaker Paul Ryan (http://thehill.com/people/paul-ryan) (R-Wis.) by refusing to relinquish his committee assignments, prompting House Republicans to move forward with a plan to forcibly remove him from those posts.
A House GOP source close to the process told The Hill on Wednesday that Hunter is not voluntarily resigning his committee assignments, despite Ryan saying on Tuesday that he would be removed (http://thehill.com/homenews/house/402951-ryan-removes-gop-rep-from-committee-assignments-following-indictment) from those positions following charges that he used at least $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses.

Hunter is a member of the Armed Services Committee, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and the Education and the Workforce Committee.

You aren't giving him enough credit. I mean he basically inherited the seat from his pops, no doubt he grew up learning that campaign funds are meant to be spent on your family.

Indictment, shmindictment. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) is still in the lead in his congressional race.
Hunter and his wife were indicted (http://theweek.com/speedreads/791615/gop-rep-duncan-hunter-wife-indicted-campaign-finance-violations) on charges of wire fraud, falsifying records, campaign finance violations, and conspiracy last week. The Justice Department accused the couple of spending more than $250,000 in campaign funds on personal expenses like vacations, clothes, video games, and a plane ticket for a pet rabbit.
Despite the allegations, Hunter is the frontrunner in California's 50th District, The San Diego Union-Tribune (http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/politics/sd-me-hunter-poll-20180827-story.html) reported Monday, citing a Survey USA poll. He leads by eight points over Ammar Campa-Najjar, his Democratic challenger. Hunter is polling at 47 percent, while Campa-Najjar has 39 percent, with 13 percent undecided.
