View Full Version : More Americans than ever find Democrats out of the mainstream

Let’s get right to the good stuff: In a new poll conducted by NBC News and The Wall Street Journal, just 33 percent of those surveyed think the Democratic Party is “in the mainstream.” More than half (56 percent) consider them out of step.
Just two years ago in 2016, those numbers were far different: 48 percent mainstream, 42 percent out. That means the “mainstream” number has plunged 12.5 percent, a huge drop in just two years.

In 2016, Democrats argued that President Trump was far outside the mainstream, but he turned out not to be. Now, just one-third of those polled think the Democrats of today are mainstream.
Where the party goes next is anyone’s guess. But where it’s going right now apparently scares all those flyover-country “mainstream” Americans.

What's depressing to me is that WE are so far "out of the mainstream".

We couldn't get half the numbers that Bernie and the rest of the Bolshevik left can muster.

That's why I am maneuvering myself as best I can, politically.

I know my fellow Amerikunts, on all sides, hate, and do not want freedom, outside of our merry little band of Refuseniks.

After over 20 years, I realize I can't change that.

So, I'm hitching my horse to the wagon that is going to do me the least harm.

Fuck it...

If we move the mainstream our direction we may one day be inside it, that is how every successful political revolution has happened.

The Marxists have the benefit of indoctrinating the citizens from age 6 to 18 ≈ 23.

Just image if that same populous was taught to believe in the Constitution or Austrian economics or liberty.

Well Sanders only got so much support because he was the only one on the democratic side giving Clinton a run for her money. If you had several prominent famous democrats running for POTUS at the same time as Sanders, I doubt he would of even been a blip on the radar.

For all its talk about diversity, the Democratic Party has once more made it clear that it excludes those who believe that unborn babies are deserving of legal protection.

On Saturday, the central committee of the Missouri Democratic Party voted to delete from the party’s platform language that welcomed pro-lifers into the party.
That language, added in June in a 31-25 vote, read:
We respect the conscience of each Missourian and recognize that members of our party have deeply held and sometimes differing positions on issues of personal conscience, such as abortion. We recognize the diversity of views as a source of strength, and welcome into our ranks all Missourians who may hold differing positions on this issue.
The amendment was passed somewhat hastily. According to St. Louis’ Riverfront Times (https://www.riverfronttimes.com/newsblog/2018/08/13/missouri-democrats-remove-pro-life-welcome-from-platform-reversing-july-vote), “It was emailed to members one day before a scheduled vote on a new platform — and the vote ended up taking place on a day that many party activists had already committed to being at immigration protests.”

On top of that, the state had recently defunded Planned Parenthood, and Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy had just announced his retirement, raising the specter of a Roe v. Wade reversal. No wonder the vote sent pro-abortion forces into a tizzy, as a Kansas City Star editorial (https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/editorials/article216622910.html) noted:
Alison Dreith, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, called the inclusive language “sickening” and “a slap in the face to the base voters of the party.” Rachel Sweet, of Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes, said that by “rolling out the welcome mat for candidates who do not support abortion rights,” the Missouri Democratic Party was “signaling to its female supporters that their rights are expendable.”
Saturday’s vote replaced the inclusive amendment with a strong affirmation of “a woman’s right to choose” and absolute opposition to “any efforts to limit access to reproductive health care.”

Just to note- Republican scores in the survey were almost identical to the Democratic ones. http://media1.s-nbcnews.com/i/today/z_creative/18570NBCWSJJulyPoll7-22-18Release.pdf

57% said Republican congressional candidates were "out of step with the mainstream" and 56% said the Democrats were. (33% of each said the candidates in the respective parties were "in the mainstream")

When it comes to their approaches to issues, would you say that [INSERT ITEM] are generally in the mainstream of most Americans' thinking, or are generally out of step with most Americans' thinking?

How positive do they view the members of the two parties?

Republican:

Very Positively: 11%
Somewhat positively: 24%
Somewhat negatively: 20%
Very Negatively: 26%

Democrats:

Very Positively: 10%
Somewhat positively: 24%
Somewhat negatively: 18%
Very negatively: 25%

So only about a third of voters like either party.

On the job Trump is doing:

Strongly Approve: 29%
Somewhat Approve: 16%
Somewhat Disapprove: 8%
Strongly Disapprove: 44%

A star of the Netflix show “***** Eye,” Jonathan Van Ness, is getting heat from the left after he sent out a tweet calling for Democrats to stop demonizing Trump supporters.

Not all republicans are racist. Just like not all democrars are evil, we have to stop demonizing eachother. Unless you’re actually racist then you suck, Trump is Racist – not all his voters are necessarily we gotta remember we are all in this together.
— Jonathan Van Ness (@jvn) August 15, 2018 (https://twitter.com/jvn/status/1029757402953003009?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

At this point, if they are still supporting Trump, they are racists at worst, don't care if people are racists at best. Sorry, @jvn (https://twitter.com/jvn?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) I see no way around this. I've severed ties with family members who insist on supporting Trump.

This is the worst political advice ever. Progressive candidates that actually stand for something are how we win. Running towards the center with Clinton just gave us 4 years of Trump – let’s not be silly again. People want universal healthcare… period.

Have you paid attention to any election in 8 years? Center-Left candidates have lost 1,000 seats at all levels. Repeating the same mistaken action and expecting a different result is a negligent idea. Also that too far left you’re speaking of just wants healthcare for all.

If Republicans move to the far right and Democrats race for the centre, the entire discourse slides rightwards, which is why a great many sane and constructive policies are now considered "radical leftism". Democrats must RUN to the left.

Van Ness responded to the haters on Twitter, saying, “left people are not necessarily inherently evil, and right people are not necessarily inherently evil, and our ability to notice gray area and to notice what compromise means and how much compromise has led us to where we are is important.”
