Glenn Jacobs, aka Kane of WWE, takes home Knox County mayoral race

August 2, 2018

Glenn Jacobs, the towering 6-foot-8 giant of a professional wrestler best known as Kane in the WWE, has won an election to determine the next mayor of Knox County in Tennessee on Thursday night.

Jacobs, 51, had nearly two-thirds of the more than 80,000 total ballots cast, according to Knoxville ABC affiliate WATE. He was opposing Democratic nominee Linda Haney in the heavily Republican Knox County.

It was a far cry from Jacobs' victory in the Republican primary race, which he won by just 23 votes back in May over Knox County commissioner Brad Anders.

In a professional wrestling career that stretches back to the early 1990s, Jacobs became one of the longest-tenured performers in WWE history. He is a former heavyweight champion, and performed inside of the ring under his famous red mask as recently as July 15 at a WWE pay-per-view event in Pittsburgh.

I need to look at his policies a bit more but from what I heard so far, he should be a big improvement from the typical rep or dem mayor. This is a big deal.

Yes, this was another interesting story. Old Money rules Knoxville, so this was a refreshing story.

That won't be happening.

But ask yourself this question.... what office do Mayors often run for after their term is up?

This is a big deal.Supringly the County Mayor he replaced wasn't that bad. Former state legislator who fought hard against REAL ID. He just won a primary for Congress on the same election (term limited out of the Mayoral office).

Isnt Mcconnell already running for re-election? I mean, if he doesn't keel over in the mean time. But I think going from Mayor to US Senate in two years is way too quick, makes him seem like a climber. He seems like the type of guy to finish his term and hopefully we'll see him in congress.

Aside from the political, all of Glenn Jacobs' wrestling colleagues have nothing but good things to say about him, whether they agree with his positions or not. If you know about the pro-wrestling industry, such a thing is very, very rare. People hate each other in that business. Some people seem universally despised, but everyone is hated by someone. Except for Kane and very few others. He's the right kind of guy to have in politics.
