United joins American Airlines in telling US immigration officials not to fly children separated from their families on its planes

United Airlines said in a statement on Wednesday that it had informed the US government that it should not use its planes to fly children who have been separated from their families by immigration officials at the US-Mexico border.

"Our company's shared purpose is to connect people and unite the world," United's CEO, Oscar Munoz, said in the statement. "This policy and its impact on thousands of children is in deep conflict with that mission and we want no part of it."

Munoz is also one of the highest-profile Mexican-American CEOs in the world.

Hours earlier, American Airlines made a similar announcement . The Texas-based carrier said: "The family separation process that has been widely publicized is not at all aligned with the values of American Airlines — we bring families together, not apart."

American Airlines, United, and several other major US carriers are under contract with the government to provide transportation services for myriad purposes, including employee work trips and even deportations.

American and United said in their statements that they could not find any evidence that immigrant children separated from their families had been flown on their planes.

In recent weeks, outcry has grown over the treatment of immigrants attempting to cross the US-Mexico border, including the forced separation of children from their parents and the use of large holding facilities along the border.

On one hand, this is a private company donating its services. On the other hand, your taxpayer dollars were used to fly them to various cities across the country rather than letting them stay at the border with their parents in the first place. About 500 parents were deported without their children (who your taxpayer dollars are paying to keep in the country).

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/investigations/over-460-migrants-separated-their-children-have-potentially-been-deported-n893886

The Trump administration may have already deported as many as 463 migrant parents who were separated from their children at the U.S.-Mexico border, and they may have lost their right to reunification, Justice Department lawyers said in a court filing on Monday.

Those parents may not be eligible to be reunified with their children, according to the filing, which grouped parents not in the U.S. as either potentially eligible or not eligible.

The filing also reported that 879 migrant parents have been successfully reunified with their children, up from 364 on Thursday. But 917 parents may not be eligible for reunification at all.

Migrant parents were mislead into waiving rights to family reunification

When immigration officials asked a Guatemalan father to sign a sheet of paper in English several weeks ago, he had no idea what it said.

The man, a migrant who primarily speaks the Mayan language Akatek, knows no English, barely understands Spanish and is completely illiterate, according to his lawyer. But he is clear about what he wants most - to reunite with his 8-year-old daughter, from whom he was separated at the border in May.

So the father was stunned to learn, from an attorney in a New Mexico immigration processing center, that he signed a form waiving his right to do just that.

The Guatemalan man is one of many migrant parents separated from their children who may have unknowingly signed away their reunification rights, lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union wrote in court documents filed Wednesday.

Some parents said they thought they were signing paperwork that would, in fact, allow them to reunite with their children, according to their immigration lawyers. Others described being crowded into rooms with dozens of people, given only a few minutes to fill out forms that would determine whether they would reunite with their children or leave them behind in the United States. They signed the forms out of fear, or confusion, or a belief that they had no other choice, lawyers wrote in the court filing.

"One father was told that if he didn't sign the form presented to him, then he would not see his daughter again," lawyer Kathryn Shepherd wrote in a court affidavit.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-immigration/u-s-races-to-meet-migrant-reunification-deadline-idUSKBN1KG19B

One immigrant, Douglas Almendarez, told Reuters he believed that returning to Honduras was the only way to be reunited with his 11-year-old son.

“They told me: ‘He’s ahead of you’,” said Almendarez, 37, in the overgrown backyard of his modest soda shop several hours drive from the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa. “It was a lie.”

‘Family separation’ policy forces admin to divert $200 million from other health programs

The federal health department has been quietly using funds from critical programs to rectify President Donald Trump’s immigration policy that forcibly separated more than 2,500 migrant families at the southwest border.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has pulled from at least $200 million in funds that were initially moved to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, the arm of HHS in charge of family reunification, during the Obama administration, according to Politico. At least $17 million in unused funds from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program was used to swiftly reunite kids and parents.

The agency got stuck with leading the family reunification process, despite reportedly not wanting the job and having no say on Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy of criminally prosecuting asylum-seeking parents, which led to separating families.

Now, HHS is scrambling to reunite more than 2,500 migrant kids in its custody with their parents by the end of July per a court-imposed deadline. The agency has, so far, reunited approximately 58 kids under the age of five with their parents, the ACLU told ThinkProgress on Tuesday. A Department of Justice (DOJ) lawyer told the ACLU and the federal judge who ordered prompt reunification that HHS has been reuniting kids over the age of five, but hasn’t specified how many yet.

Your tax dollars at work.

The process of housing an influx of migrant kids and transporting them to the Department of Homeland Security to reunite with their parents has come at a high cost. The administration spent more than $30 million in the past two months for simply housing thousands of kids, according to Politico’s unnamed sources close to ORR operations. One major driver of spending is “influx shelters,” costing nearly $800 per night; These temporary contracted facilities are more than triple the cost of shelters with which ORR typically contracts.

Mike Pence has only one site on the internet that even remotely resembles a forum area, he has a Topix page
that has between 25 and 30 slightly recent lil news stories on it, and he increasingly is becoming as guilty as
Trump is, because he has been defending him. Trump is obnoxious, fickle and charismatic. He is corrupt. If he
truly was a fiscal conservative, he would not have jacked up the national debt in the manner he has. He is not
a civil libertarian & is more stupidly brutal than George W Bush was. We are that much closer to a dictatorship.

That's easy. "FEDcoin"

https://cryptocoin.news/cryptocurrency/fedcoin-one-cryptocurrency-to-rule-them-all-5549/

The financial benefits of Fedcoin for governments would be huge:

For the first time, a world currency would be used, backed by governments, being in practice a popular currency without borders.

Governments can have the exact information of how much money a person has, how they spend and how much earn. This would avoid tax evasion.
Greater control to know exactly how much currency is issued through its blockchain.
Avoid printing false bills.
Even know the Fedcoin that are not being used to regain the power of them or place negative interest rates to reduce the amount of Fedcoin circulation.

A ' private " company guarded by TSA and fed tax payers monies that will overcharge citizens to get monies back for " free " flights . No thanks .

Not sure Taxpayers are on the hook for those services, some say Taxpayers are getting money from ticket fees:

But when the TSA fee more than doubled in July 2014, a significant portion of the extra revenue was diverted to deficit reduction, under a deal (http://https//www.usatoday.com/story/travel/flights/2014/07/20/tsa-security-fee/12849631/) negotiated by House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., when he was Budget Committee chairman. The fee was raised from $2.50 for each leg of a flight, or $5 for a connecting flight, to $5.60 for each leg, or $11. The hike was part of a broader deficit-reduction deal that followed a government shutdown.

“For some reason, the government thinks that airline passengers are a bottomless piggy bank,” Charles Leocha, who heads the consumer-advocacy group Travelers United, said when the fee went into effect.

The trade group Airlines for America, which represents most of the largest carriers, asked the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to review the fee hike.
Sharon Pinkerton, the airline group’s senior vice president for legislative affairs, told a Senate hearing Feb. 16 that travelers are paying $1.4 billion more each year for the same service because of the fee diversion

Still being misleading. I see.

It was Republic Airlines and Dr. Dao was not beaten.

He was swinging his fist and fell onto an armrest during the struggle to remove him by Security Police officers that worked at the airport, not any particular airline.

... it wasn't even a United flight. But a contracted service provided by Republic Airlines.

And the cops are free to do whatever they think is appropriate in that situation. Not the airline call how they handle it. It is their decision how to handle it. It is like me calling the cops about a burglary. Am I now responsible on how the cops handled the situation? OK, I'm sure some will say they shouldn't have called the cops. OK, how do you remove him? If you read the whole story, it is different than what the media has presented. Hint, he was actually off the airplane already and ran back in, etc.
