Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) has officially announced his bid to replace Paul Ryan as speaker of the house, as first reported by the Daily Caller (http://dailycaller.com/2018/07/26/jim-jordan-speaker-announcement/).
https://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/jordan_0.jpg
“Should the American people entrust us with the majority again in the 116th Congress, I plan to run for Speaker of the House to bring real change to the House of Representatives,” Jordan said in a Thursday statement. “President Trump has taken bold action on behalf of the American people. Congress has not held up its end of the deal, but we can change that. It’s time to do what we said.”

Thursday’s announcement would be the first time Jordan directly said whether or not he is running. The congressman had repeatedly said leading up to the announcement that there was no speaker’s race, but the he was entertaining the idea of throwing his name in the hat. -Daily Caller (http://dailycaller.com/2018/07/26/jim-jordan-speaker-announcement/)
“There is no speaker’s race,” Jordan told TheDCNF in April. “If and when there is, my colleagues have urged me to consider it, and I’m open to that. The focus is not on who the speaker is; the focus is on what we do. The key is: We have got to get back to what the American people sent us here to do.”

Powerful GOP Rep. Jim Jordan accused of turning blind eye to sexual abuse as Ohio State wrestling coach

"It's sad for me to hear that he's denying," said one former wrestler. "I don’t know why he would, unless it’s a cover-up."

Rep. Jim Jordan, the powerful Republican congressman from Ohio, is being accused by former wrestlers he coached more than two decades ago at Ohio State University of failing to stop the team doctor from molesting them and other students.

The university announced in April that it was investigating accusations that Dr. Richard Strauss, who died in 2005, abused team members when he was the team doctor from the mid-1970s to late 1990s.

Jordan, who was assistant wrestling coach at the university from 1986 to 1994, has repeatedly said he knew nothing of the abuse until former students began speaking out this spring, and continued to deny it on Tuesday. His denials, however, have been met with skepticism and anger from some former members of the wrestling team.

Three former wrestlers told NBC News that it was common knowledge that Strauss showered regularly with the students and inappropriately touched them during appointments, and said it would have been impossible for Jordan to be unaware; one wrestler said he told Jordan directly about the abuse.

Former head coach Russ Hellickson, Jordan's mentor, said in a recent video — made by Mike DiSabato, a former wrestler — that Hellickson had told Strauss that he was being too "hands on” with students.

DiSabato, whose allegations against Strauss prompted Ohio State to open its investigation, called Jordan a “liar.”

“I considered Jim Jordan a friend,” DiSabato said. “But at the end of the day, he is absolutely lying if he says he doesn’t know what was going on.”

DiSabato said he reached out to Jordan this year, before going to the university, to tell Jordan that he planned to go public with his allegations. Jordan told him to “please leave me out of it,” DiSabato said. “He asked me not to get him involved.”

Dunyasha Yetts, who wrestled at Ohio State in 1993 and 1994, said he and others told Jordan about Strauss.

“I remember I had a thumb injury and went into Strauss’ office and he started pulling down my wrestling shorts,” he said. “I’m like, what the f--- are you doing? And I went out and told Russ and Jim what happened. I was not having it. They went in and talked to Strauss.”

Yetts said he and his teammates talked to Jordan numerous times about Strauss.

“For God’s sake, Strauss’s locker was right next to Jordan’s and Jordan even said he’d kill him if he tried anything with him,” Yetts said.

Yetts admitted that he did time for bilking investors out of nearly $2 million. “I am not a perfect person, but ask any of the wrestlers and they will tell you everybody knew about Doc,” said Yetts, who served 18 months in prison.

As for Jordan, Yetts said, “He’s a great guy. We would have all these great talks with him and he talked about how one day he’d be the president of the United States."

"So it’s sad for me to hear that he’s denying knowing about Strauss," he said. "I don’t know why he would, unless it’s a cover-up. Either you’re in on it, or you’re a liar.”

Get lost and take the lies with you, other students have defended him and the whole thing stinks of the same kind of nonsense that is so popularly used against conservatives like Roy Moore.

Jordan has denied having any knowledge of Strauss’ alleged abuse and has accused those who say otherwise of carrying a vendetta against him. But the athletes who have come forward say he definitely knew what was going on.

Dunyasha Yetts, a wrestler at Ohio State in 1993, told Politico that he told Jordan about Strauss’ behavior and asked him and Russ Hellickson, the former wrestling head coach, to come to the doctor with him because he didn’t want to be fondled. “For him to say he didn’t know? I asked him to come in there with me!” Yetts said. Jordan’s office denied the account, and Hellickson said he didn’t remember it.

Shawn Dailey, another former wrestler, told NBC News he was groped a half a dozen times by Strauss but didn’t tell Jordan about it at the time because he was too embarrassed. But he said Jordan was present for conversations about Strauss and that it was “very common knowledge in the locker room that if you went to Dr. Strauss for anything, you would have to pull your pants down.”

Dailey, who calls Jordan a “close friend” and donated to his first political campaign in 1994, also corroborated Yetts’ account that he had asked Jordan to step in:

“Dunyasha comes back and tells Jimmy, ‘Seriously, why do I have to pull down my pants for a thumb injury?’” Dailey recalled. “Jimmy said something to the extent of, ‘If he tried that with me, I would kill him.’”

Former UFC world champion Mark Coleman told the Wall Street Journal that Jordan knew. “There’s no way, unless he’s got dementia or something, that he’s got no recollection of what was going on at Ohio State,” said Coleman, who wrestled at Ohio State and won the NCAA championship 1988. “I have nothing but respect for this man, I love this man, but he knew as far as I’m concerned.”

Jordan has denied any knowledge, and his allies have circled the wagons to defend him. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) shared an article from the Daily Caller that questioned the credibility of the wrestlers cited in the NBC report, by reporting on lawsuits the athletes had filed and been named in, as well as criminal fraud conviction. It also contains a statement from Hellickson, the former head coach. “At no time while Jim Jordan was a coach with me at Ohio State did either of us ignore abuse of our wrestlers,” Hellickson wrote.

Jordan told Fox News that DiSabato, whose decision to go public with his allegations against Strauss prompted the university’s investigation, has a “vendetta against Ohio State” and has a “criminal record” and “all kinds of lawsuits against him.” As Politico points out, DiSabato has had long-running business feuds with Ohio State and “run-ins” with Jordan’s family. He’s also one of multiple witnesses to have come forward with allegations about Strauss.

Ohio State is investigating the allegations against Strauss

Ohio State began investigating Strauss earlier this year after DiSabato reported the allegations to the University.

Strauss, who was the university’s team doctor from 1981 to 1995, after joining Ohio State’s staff in 1978, was said to have been in contact with athletes in baseball, cheerleading, cross country, fencing, football, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling, during his time.

The university has said it has received testimony of sexual abuse and misconduct from male students from 14 different sports teams, and some students who were patients through the university’s health services unit. Investigators have asked 150 people questions about the allegations, from students to witnesses, and the university has also referred the matter to law enforcement for any criminal prosecution.

Ohio State has said that they have received more than 100 allegations of assault. DiSabato told NBC, “based on testimony from victim athletes from each of the aforementioned varsity sports, we estimate that Strauss sexually assaulted and/or raped a minimum of 1,500 - 2,000 athletes at OSU from 1978 through 1998.”

Change "Jordan" to "Clinton" and you would be all over it.

When something like this happens at such a convenient time to a Klinton I will let their known moral fiber influence my opinion but I will also be quite certain that it is the result of some enemy's attempt to bring them down. LET ME KNOW IF IT EVER HAPPENS (Please do hold your breath waiting)

Jordan doesn't have the kind of moral baggage that the Klintons do and the left has weaponized phony sex scandals against their enemies recently, the odds of it being true in this case are extremely low.

April 2018

Ohio State University announces an investigation into the allegations against Strauss on April 5. In a statement, the university reveals it has received several allegations of sexual misconduct:

The investigation includes outreach to former student-athletes, coaches, and others who may have been affected or may have had knowledge of these alleged incidents. Dr. Strauss’ exact dates of service in his role as a wrestling team physician are not precisely known at this time. The best available information is that he served in this role between the mid-1970s and the late 1990s. Making this determination precisely will be a part of the investigation. Dr. Strauss died in 2005.

May 2018

Ohio State provides an update on the investigation on May 3. In a statement, the university announces Strauss treated numerous athletes from multiple sports besides wrestling.

Since the April 5 announcement of the allegations and investigation, the university has learned that during his time at Ohio State, Dr. Strauss treated student-athletes from several sports, worked at the medical center, and the student health center. To date, the investigative team has received confidential reports from former Ohio State varsity men student-athletes affiliated with cheerleading, fencing, football, gymnastics, ice hockey, swimming, volleyball, and wrestling. We are sharing this information to encourage our community past and present to come forward.

The statement also acknowledges contact with local law enforcement regarding the allegations.

This matter has been referred to the Columbus Division of Police and the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for any potential criminal investigation. The Attorney General has committed the resources of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to assist in any criminal investigation, if requested.

According to the university statement, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office appointed Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP as legal counsel for the university. Porter Wright then engaged Perkins Coie LLP to conduct an independent investigation.

June 2018

Ohio State University announces the expanded scope of the investigation on June 7 after athletes from more than a dozen teams contact Perkins Coie LLP with allegations of sexual misconduct by Strauss.

Perkins Coie now has received confidential reports of sexual misconduct committed by Strauss from former varsity men student-athletes in 14 sports, up from eight previously identified, and from former patients of Student Health Services within the Office of Student Life. The sports include baseball, cheerleading, cross country, fencing, football, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling.

In the same announcement, the university states it has received allegations connected to a private medical office in Columbus that Strauss established outside the university in August 1996.

July 2018
Multiple former OSU wrestlers come forward to media outlets such as The Associated Press, NBC News, CNN, and Politico with allegations that Jordan was aware of alleged misconduct committed by Strauss during his time on the coaching staff.

Mike DiSabato, an Ohio State wrestler during the period being investigated, tells NBC News in an article published on July 3 that he contacted Jordan about going public with abuse allegations:

“I considered Jim Jordan a friend, but at the end of the day, he is absolutely lying if he says he doesn’t know what was going on.”

When did they drag Jordan into it?

Also Ryan could easily have told someone about his plans before making them public, besides the fact that the whispers may have gone around Ryan is not one of the "good guys" and he may have had a hand in planning this himself.

Just curious...exactly WHO did Paul Ryan beat out in order to be Speaker, initially?
When Bill McKinley failed to become House Speaker, he then set his eyes on the
Oval Office, he ran for governor of Ohio and won. Then he enters the history books.

A former Ohio State wrestler on Thursday seemingly reversed course on an earlier claim that Republican Rep. Jim Jordan was aware of instances of alleged sexual abuse against students by a team doctor while he was a wrestling coach at Ohio State University.
Mark Coleman released a statement, via a public relations company, in which he sought to clear up “comments attributed to him that were not accurate or were misconstrued by media outlets.”
The company that provided the statement is the one hired by Jordan's campaign to respond to the claims.

“At no time did I ever say or have any direct knowledge that Jim Jordan knew of Dr. Richard Strauss’s inappropriate behavior,” Coleman was quoted as saying in the statement. “I have nothing but respect for Jim Jordan as I have known him for more than 30 years and know him to be of impeccable character.”

Coleman also sought to separate himself from Mike DiSabato, an ex-wrestler who claimed Jordan had knowledge of the allegations.
“Mike DiSabato and his PR representative have released information and made statements publicly without my authorization and, in my opinion, are using them to exploit and embarrass The Ohio State University,” Coleman said in Thursday’s statement. “I am distancing myself from Mike DiSabato as he is not my manager and does not speak for me. I am also disappointed with many of the public statements made by Mr. DiSabato and his personal attacks on individuals employed by the university and others.”

I'd vote for a Jordan/Paul or Paul/Jordan ticket, I might even vote for Jordan against Trump in 2020 but I would need to do more research since Jordan is not as near perfect as Rand or Mike Lee.

Rep. Jim Jordan (http://thehill.com/people/jim-jordan) (R-Ohio) is taking his Speaker’s bid to the campaign trail this weekend, fundraising for a pair of potentially vulnerable House Republicans more closely aligned with leadership than with his own conservative House Freedom Caucus.
The Chicago-area banquet with Illinois Reps. Peter Roskam (http://thehill.com/people/peter-roskam) and Randy Hultgren (http://thehill.com/people/randy-hultgren) will give Jordan a chance to showcase why he should lead House Republicans next year as he boosts members outside of his typical conservative circle — and works to save the chamber's GOP majority.

His pitch has centered on how he would overhaul the chamber rules and run the House differently if he were in charge, a message designed to appeal to the wide range of lawmakers who are frustrated with how much power is concentrated at the top.
“I talk to members all the time,” Jordan said of his Speaker bid. “I talk about how I think this place should operate differently, the entire process.”
One of the ideas Jordan has floated is allowing the members of a committee to choose their own chairman instead of leaving it up to the Steering Committee, which gives outsize power to the Speaker and his top lieutenant in awarding gavels.
The concept could be especially attractive next year, when there will be nine GOP vacancies at the top of congressional panels.
The idea could also be appealing to the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, which unveiled a package of rule reforms that they want the next Speaker to adopt.
Rep. Tom Reed (http://thehill.com/people/tom-reed) (R-N.Y.), co-chairman of the caucus, said he has talked to Jordan about his vision for Speaker and gave the Ohio Republican the group’s proposal to overhaul the lower chamber.
Reed is keeping his powder dry in the race, but he said his conversation with Jordan was “positive.”
“I’m looking for rule reform,” Reed told The Hill. “As I told him, and others: I’m open to any candidate who is willing to not just kick the can down the road. Let’s do these rule reforms. We do them up front. And we get it done.”
Jordan believes he has been gaining some ground over the August recess. He pointed to Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (http://thehill.com/people/cathy-rodgers) (Wash.), the No. 4 House Republican, who told a local paper (https://m.inlander.com/spokane/mcmorris-rodgers-regrets-tone-of-sex-offender-attack-ads-against-lisa-brown/Content?oid=11770992) that she is open to supporting Jordan for Speaker, though she isn’t committing to any candidate until after November.
Jordan’s allies took it as an encouraging sign that not all members of the GOP leadership team are on the same page.
And a number of lawmakers, including some outside the Freedom Caucus, told The Hill they have received phone calls from constituents urging them to support Jordan, as well as others backing McCarthy.
Jordan is supported by a number of powerful conservative groups, which have launched an aggressive grass-roots campaign to boost his candidacy and put outside pressure on lawmakers to back it. FreedomWorks also organized a rally for Jordan on the Capitol lawn for later this month.
